In 2004, I ETSed from the Ohio Army National Guard only to be called out of the IRR nine months months later—activated in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. How this all worked out, of course, was a CF, but I eventually made it to my new unit with a group of about twenty others (also called out of the IRR). The unit themselves treated us all quite well (we joined the family), but we were very often overlooked when it came to family support, etc. Question: Who else among you was either called out of the IRR or served with someone served out of the IRR, and how well do you believe you (or they) were treated? What problems arose? What could have been done better?
