Can a 92A be slotted in for a 92Y when PCSing? And vice versa?

I as long as your MOSQ , I don't think it matters where you're slotted. I could be wrong.

Yes I seen plenty of 92A in 92Y slot especially as supply SGT!

Yes, it won’t hurt you as long as it is the same or higher skill level. It gives you diversity. Definitely try to excel in the position and you should be G2G.

I had the opportunity to attend the SAMS-E course as a 92Y and it was a good experience to get the training that 92A’s use for motor pool operations.

No a soldier should be qualified within the MOS however, if there is a shortage a commander may task a qualified soldier with additional duties. When I was a youg 92a my Commander also put me on orders to act as our fueler or 92F.

Keep in mind that on your next NCOER you will be rated as a 92Y instead of a 92A if you get that slot. If that’s what you really want, go for it. I know units can substitute just about any MOS for certain jobs that are needed that they don’t have, there are consequences. Better to work IN your MOS than take a chance of missing a promotion because you aren’t working in that MOS.

You could however get 92Y as a Secondary MOS and solve that problem. I carried three. 92Y, 12B, and 12E.

They could be, but a 92A will be at a disadvantage until they have learned and understand GCSS-Army, PBO and hand receipts, and field supply operations (LOGPACS). Once that is accomplished, then it can be a good assignment to broaden your skillset.

You will find that some MOS's are able to be cross leveled to fit the needs of the unit. Being that 92A and 92Y are so similar in nature it can be done and has been in cases, especially when talking about deployments. It is usually left to the discretion of the BN level commander and CSM to allow these kinds of cross levels.

I've never seen that before... I've seen ppl with secondary MOS's slotted in a primary MOS.

I was at Ft. Benning only because I was placed in an aviation unit and civilians ran the warehouse.

Not sure, wouldn't think so- would be like swapping a stinger gunner for a Patriot gunner- same branch, but much different duties. Never saw much automation in a unit supply room.
