IF he has a flag then he cannot have any kind positive actions on his behalf. Now once he passes his APFT and the flag is lifted then you can submit him for an award and it most likely will go through.

I always thought, submit an award and receive an award was two diferent things. I was order to submit an AAM award for a Soldier that did 294 in his APFT.

True. Dropping award paperwork might be appreciated by your soldier, but probably won't win you a friend in your PSG who said not to, since it won't go anywhere anyway. No favorable actions when flagged. There just isn't a better avenue of approach for this soldier; certainly none I ever heard of. It is what it is. Pat them on the back for their weapons qual, and remind them to up their PT game.

PT failures are the bane of the Team/Squad Leader in the Guard and Reserve. In the weeks between drills its hard to track and motivate soldiers to keep up their PT. Its sometimes hard to do it for ourselves!

As an acting SL, I had 4 soldiers with PT issues, and I had them commit to a written plan they drew up (and signed) for themselves to address their deficiencies. Every Friday I texted them to get a weekly report on whether their actual PT aligned with their planned PT, and I had to trust that whatever they told me--good or bad--was truthful. I'm proud to say all of them passed their next scheduled APFT. It was the most successful thing I ever had a hand in as an NCO. But these soldiers were motivated to do better, not all are. So in the final judgement, did I actually do anything? Truthfully, not much. I was just their little Jiminy Cricket, their conscience, reminding them they committed to themselves, and so they did the work.

Good luck.
