Can a NCO who has been issued a “cause of relief” still save his/her career? Also what happens after they have been counseled for it?

If you're a SGT and you receive a Relief for Cause, this will not be the end of your career. The Army leaves plenty of leeway for NCOs to mess up as SGTs. The most common sense move after a RFC NCOER is to do an administrative reduction to E4 and give the Soldier time to develop and regain their rank.
If you're a SSG or higher and receive a RFC, you will face a QMP board to determine whether or not you should stay in the Army.

Thank you for that information, on this NCO’s counseling form it states that they will just be moving him/ Her to a different area and if the individual doesn’t perform well they they will go with a reduction in rank. This individuals only has less then a year on station and has had a bad run while being stationed here, good NCO. Just trying to give a helping hand and some peace of mind.
