I know that the standards for profile recovery times is changing. I do believe that the Army is doing away with recovery time.....however I cannot be certain. I will get with my BN Medical Readiness NCO and get the specifics and get back to you.

There has to be much more to this story as other responses have stated.

However, I will say this the new profile forms that started a few months back, literally have a block where the doc puts a date that Soldier is expected to be fully mission capable and take APFT, obviously that date can change with a follow up appointment, but then too the Soldier would receive another profile. Lastly, on that same form the doc can authorize the Soldier to take a record, yes a record APFT on temporary profile.

Sure, if they're prepared to gamble their careers in the event that something happens to that soldier.

Commanders have very broad discretion. As long as their actions don't violate the UCMJ, they can do as they wish. Not saying it may not have unpleasant consequences, but, in short, yes.
