Can a soldier be chaptered for losing their clearance? If so, what kind of chapter would it be?

Yes. Absolutely.

But usually what we do is simply give you a mandatory reclass to an MOS that doesn't require a clearance.

You can be if your MOS requires a clearance and you can't be reclassed. If the event that triggered your loss of your clearance is derogative then yes. I have seen this due to a legal issues that were involved. If you were to lose your clearance due to debt then they could potential reclass you. If you lose your clearance due to committing a UCMJ chargeable offense then you might face separation.

You didn’t say why you lost your clearance. With 5 years in grade a reclass might be a blessing. Try for an MOS with good promotion rate to E5. If you truly screwed the pooch and got yourself court martialed, then pray you get asked to leave with your GI benefits in tact.

Depends on why they lost the clearance in the first place. MOS can determine requirement for clearances. Often a Soldier is given the option to reclass into a vacancy in the unit or other units before discharged is looked at; unless the reason is UCMJ actionable.

I would be more concerned with losing the clearance. As a SFC I was required to have a secret clearance simply to be an SFC. I don't know if that was a guard thing, a BN thing, or a state thing, but even as a cook I had to have one.

Short answer yes. However you should get an option to reclass I. an MOS that does not require a clearance
