In the Marine Corps, if your leadership was on its game, you would receive a letter of continuity. This would explain to the new commander that you could jump whole buildings in a single bound. Multiple awards, unless for valor under fire, is asking a little too much, IMHO and leads to the dilution of certain medals.

If you get a PCS award, I would imagine you will only get one award covering your entire time at the post. If the unit that deactivated was going to give you an award for your service and efforts they would have done so prior to deactivation. Best of luck going forward.

I thought you got awards for doing your job? You get an award for the merit of your accomplishments? If you did something after the other unit deactivated, you get an award, if you did not...no award.
I was in both the USMC for 7 years, and the Army for 14. Someone is going to have the explain PCS awards for Marines. Many will think it is what the PCS clerk deserves. I left the USMC with 3 years in the INF and 4 years in CI. I moved around and did two Med floats. I received my highest or hardest award during my USMC time. My second Good Conduct Award. I also had a Sea Service Ribbon. Then in the Army on my first day, I had to get a 4 ribbon bar... they gave me a ribbon for joining the Army. (I guess I earned it for the paperwork the recruiter and I filled out?) Plus I got a ribbon for attending USMC SNCO Academy extension course - The NCODP ribbon. I really looked like a hero and my wife, at that time, a former Marine, was really impressed. :) The award program is out of control. It puts stress on leaders, and I did not earn most of my awards. We kill efficiency, create additional admin jobs, and destroyed the awards program. I saw the picture of a SGTMAJ of the Marine Corps in the 1990s. He had ONE MSM. In the 14 years in the Army, I received FIVE MSMs. I am quite sure that Marine SGTMAJ was more impressive than me!!

I did 7 years in the USMC before I did the 14 in the Army. Gave me 21 years for active duty retirement. Then I did another 14 years in civil service...for another retirement. I will be attending two hacker conferences next week and writing for some press outlets...maybe.
