Can a soldier wear awards not listed on ERB?

Can anyone provide the regulation for authorization to wear awards? Have a SM whose ERB has not been update but the SM has the 638's granting award.

An ERB isn't what authorizes you to wear an award. If you have the authorization based on either orders or a DA 638 then you could wear it. It should be reflecting on your ERB but sometimes it may take a while to reflect. The ERB and DD214 is not a document that shows the authorization of an award but is used as a reference. You still need a copy of the original orders or DA 638.

My ERB is incorrect and lists awards I don't have. What's correct sir, is what your award orders say. That said sometimes you don't receive documentation for service awards, they just get added to your record. Everything else though you'll have a 4187, a 638, or some kind of letter order authorizing the award.

Wear the award, but what your Soldier needs to do is make photocopies of the 638 and cert, put their SSN and initial on the top, and turn in to S1 for ERB update and iperms update. This is supposed to happen once a year as the Personnel Records Review.

The regulation for wearing of all authorized awards is AR 670-1.
All awards go in iPERMS, per AR and DA PAM 600-8-104.
The Record Brief is a brief of every source document in iPERMS.
iPERMS and the Record Brief get updated with the SM working with BN S1, for every promotion, school, award, and change of assignment, or at least annually.

Have the soldier take the 638 to S1 and have them update his ERB. Otherwise, CSM will eat him up at the next board

Sometimes if the SM was part of the National Guard their state awards will not reflect on the ERB.
