Can a soldier wear mechanic gloves while in formation?
We were formed up and i had my gloves on, getting a counseling for it, so I'm just curious..

Yes you can wear Gloves in formation. Look at AR and DA Pam 670-1 and it will tell you what gloves you can wear.
Mechanics brand gloves with the logo on them do not meet the standard for wear in formations. They are considered a safety item and can be authorized by the commander for wear in connection with missions again refer to AR 670-1.
We had an issue with them down range and had to watch for them on missions, the material they are made of while tactile does not meet the flash heat requirements and they can melt to your flesh in IED strikes.
So they are awesome for the mechanics working on vehicles in the motor pool but that's where they need to stay.

SPC (Join to see) yes. The unit commander prescribes the uniform for a particular formation. Unclear on what your mechanics gloves look like. The glove that is clothing bag is the black leather utility gloves with wool insert unless they have issued something else from CIF.

AR 670-1
2–5. Commanders
a. Commanders of Army commands (ACOMs)/ASCCs/direct reporting units (DRUs) will thoroughly evaluate all sub- mitted proposals (with a significant proposed change) to change or add uniforms, accessories, or wear policies for uni- forms, insignia, and awards.
b. Senior commanders may prescribe the uniform for wear in formations. When not prescribed by the senior com- mander, unit commanders will prescribe the uniform for wear in formation.

Clothing bag....gloves, black, unisex. NSN varies by size. https://www.benning.army.mil/Tenant/LRC/content/xls/FY17%20Clothing%20Bag%20(Army%20G4).xlsx

Local policy such as a Division Blue Book or similar may further prescribe uniform wear and accessories.

So if the formation is ACUs, unless otherwise prescribed by the commander, it would be allowed to be worn?

SPC (Join to see) - the chain of command should specify. You should be talking to your first line about this. The fat old retired Colonel can't fix this for you.

SPC (Join to see) No, that's not what was stated.
First, IF your commander has authorized them for wear as a safety item while performing maintenance or as otherwise prescribed as a safety item, THEN they may be worn WHEN performing the duties for which the commander authorized.
They are NOT authorized for wear with the uniform at any other time, including formation. The commander has no need to specify they aren't authorized for wear during the formation.
Google AR 670-1, and take time to read about the uniforms you wear.
Regardless, it's only a counseling statement, and not a big deal, unless you start a collection.
