I am on recruiting duty and would like to submit a 79S packet. A SSG can not have more than 2 years TIG and can submit their packet 6 months out from the end of their recruiting tour. At my 6 month mark I will have 34 months TIG...has anyone seen the 24 months waived or is it hard qualification that cannot be overlooked?
TIA.

Actually, 79S no longer accepts SSG's, they changed it back in October. The issue is that with your TIG you'll be competing for SFC as you're switching. We've had too many awesome Soldiers get picked up for SFC as they're switching MOS and then they're required to take on a bigger battalion before they've learned their jobs.
You can ask for an exception to policy. You'll have to be pretty exceptional because it gets personally approved by the Senior Army Career Counselor in the Pentagon. It does happen, it's just very rare.

I have honestly not thought about it like that, but it makes sense. I didn't know that they quit accepting SSGs. It seems like requesting an ETP will be pretty unlikely. I suppose I can just wait and see what the Army is doing when its time for me to cross that bridge. Thanks for your help.
