Can an AMEDD officer in the IRR drill (for points only) with an affiliated Reserve unit that has no open vacancy (DA select to COL 65D PA)?

The full time staff at my affiliated Reserve AMEDD unit are uncertain if they can permit me to drill for points only as a Colonel in the IRR since they do not have an 06 position. I am a 65D Physician Assistant. I've awaited a reply from the specific branch managers for a month. Can anyone offer a suggestion or state a specific regulation addressing my situation?

I think the real question is how does one become a DA select for O-6 as a PA while on IRR? Tell me your secrets, sir!

I'm sure my circumstances are slightly different than yours ( E-4 68W ), but when I would drill with another unit they did not necessarily have an open slot for my job, and a letter from the CO/XO would suffice for credit.
