Exceptions to policy are always possible with the right approval level. IDT funds are so limited that the sponsoring Command has a choice: get 5 people in or get you in. Business decision is to go for the larger number to optimize the limited resource. Vegas odds says it's a non starter. When I was O-4 and the system was fat on IDT travel money, we still didn't fly people in from overseas except to do 6 months worth of drills stacked together. That's what I did later on as a Skipper as I could basically level out the benefit/cost. Since she worked for the Navy contracting office, comms was never a problem. Also, she was a phenomenal performer, hence worth it (Singapore to Hawaii). So, yes, if you can get a flight for under that amount. My current unit in Hawaii is composed of mainly Soldiers who fly in from the US mainland. We even have one Soldier who flies from Germany, and another from South Korea. They all receive IDT travel reimbursement. Like others have mentioned, it is subject to availability of funds in your organization. The AR is looking at IDT travel reimbursement for low density/high demand personnel. Unlikely it will be across the board. The cap is $500.00 per month when travelling for BTA...as long as you get all of your documents done and submitted in DTS in a timely manner.
