Can anyone give me insight into this veteran's health insurance we supposedly have? How does one use it??

I could type everything out, but you can get all of the answers here. Is it a perfect system? Not by any means. Are they making progress to improve it? Yes. You can also talk to the Office that handles it at your nearest VA Medical Center. It will be listed as either Non-VA Care, Community Based Care, or Purchased Care.

FYI not all veterans are eligible for VA Health Coverage.

Obviously if you have any service connected disabilities you are covered.

Some veterans who served in specific campaigns or regions are covered. I fall under this because I was deployed in Desert Storm.

There are others who just don't meet the criteria.

There is a Veteran program that extends beyond the VA Hospital if you are otherwise qualified and are unable to receive the appropriate treatment within 30 days (or they have certain geographical challenges) for routing non-emergencies. All Veterans in the program were to have received their cards at this point. If you qualify and have not I would contact the VA promptly.

VA Care in the Community. But I wouldn't count on it. I still havent been reimbursed for a preauthorized mammogram!!

If you have gotten your ID then all you need to do is csll your nearest VAMC and ask to speak to scheduling. They will ask you. who your primary care doc is, if you don't have one you will be given one to see.They will manage your visits to specialists or outside community providers. If you need to see someone. urgently they will let you go to urgent clinics but you need too ask them who is contracted snd you meed. to call. In an emergrncy that is life threatening go to nearest ER and call VA within 72hours or have someone call for you.
