Can anyone guide me as to what is different in an "Expeditionary" MI BN as compared to a Non- expeditionary BN?

I have just enlisted in the reserves and this is my first contract so I am not very familiar with Military terminology. The unit I am assigned to is an" Expeditionary" unit and I am trying to understand what does that mean for me?

I was in the 321st Expeditionary MI BN. Basically what it means is that battalion will deploy every 4 years or can pieced our for deployments.

Being in a unit that was rebranded as Expeditionary, we at the lower echelons didn’t see much difference. The only thing I can say I’ve really noticed is the frequency of my soldiers being piecemealed out for deployment has been at a higher tempo.

Normally means that it would be 1st deployed where needed-that is why it is expeditionary- instead of waiting to be called up. Have a friend who use to command 468CA BN-same boat they were and had folks deployed everywhere most of the time.

Essentially, Specialist, Expeditionary Forces rollout in support of Theater level Ops and National Contingencies. I was in a Psychological Operations Command that had teams in support of EUCOM, PACOM, SOCOM, CENTCOM & AFCOM, not to mention DOTCOM and NETCOM (LoL). I trust you have grasped the difference SPC Private RallyPoint Member. Expeditionary Forces is the best route to maximize growth, awards and recognition in the Army. Get ready to mobilize Specialist.

SPC Alvarez,

An expeditionary unit is one that can theoretically pick and perform it's mission without external augmentation. They can be piecemealed out and partial detachments should be able to execute the mission without the whole formation being present. It is authorized the equipment and personnel necessary to be flexible in a multitude of operational environments.

More specifically, E-MI Brigades (and battalions) are able to perform intel operations in any environment regardless of who they are supporting. Since not all units have MICOs (MI Company) organic to their formation, there probably will be a battle rhythm of deploying every X amount of years in order to support and augment whatever unit needs intel support.

All MI Brigades will soon undergo another change IOT further support the notion of dedicated MI units serving as combat support assets. Instead of some MIBs being expeditionary and some not, all MIBs will essentially be expeditionary in some sense if this FDU goes through.
