Airborne Corps sometimes deploys the other units under it in peacetime (101st for example) but not as much as those first three. In peacetime they all regularly deploy.

The other Army units are deploying now only because it is wartime. Once the war ends they will return to being largely garrison units.

By choosing a Mech Infantry Unit you are adding 2-4 hours to your daily duty day and a whole bunch of maintenence and training tasks you would not have as a light Infantryman. So most other Infantryman are going to think your crazy for asking for that. In my view, it is good Soldier development to serve with at least one Mech unit, just to get exposure to the differences between Mech and light Infantry.

No you cannot choose your next unit when you PCS. Army chooses it for you and more specifically they do not necessarily do it by needs of the Army sometimes they pick via the needs of your personal development via broadening your experience because they presume you want to be a career Soldier. When you find them, most of them are being sent without their mechanized/heavy components.

If you were going to gamble and you find that you have the ability to maneuver yourself into a position in a unit where you have the highest potential to deploy historically-I suggest 3ID at Fort Stewart or Fort Benning; next unit would be 1ID after that very closely 1st CAV and then 4ID

A lot of those units may have infantry but they’re going to be in Bradleys some of them are going to be at strykers as well so you have to check to see what type of Equipment the units have.

unlike the past during the war these units may be on possible deployment but could be taken off; or will send a very small contingent as opposed to a larger force to support operations overseas.

hope that helps! Mech moves much faster then legs and understands how to use a vehicle as an offensive weapon, I fought 03 as a Bradley gunner in 3ID, I went back in 06 as a leg. The only real difference is I traded in my Brad for a gun truck, but I found straight up 11Bs had no clue how to use a vehicle as a fighting platform, use to drive me crazy seeing guys jump out and shot at shit while the .50s on the trucks stayed silent. So mechs good for that if nothing else, also only crew get stuck in the motor pool, dismount do normal infantry stuff, and even though crew gets screwed in garrison, in the field it’s a walk in the park because you have to stay with the vehicle, so your safe from stupid details and you get a roof over your head. Pick up the phone and call your branch manager and tell them this is your interest. But keep in mind, deploying and redeploying in TO&E units is not the only thing that matters career-wise.

Get yourself promoted and start looking to broaden your experience.
