It varies depending upon branch. Army school is for enlisted only. Marines allow a very limited number of ground intelligence officers to attend.

Snipers were able to go through several years ago as a means to understand how to properly employ that asset under their command. That ended, and the powers that be created a Sniper Employment Leaders Course. I'm not sure if that still exists either, but it might be a good place to start your research.

To the best of my knowledge all ACE operators are qualified snipers irrespective of rank. Otherwise no.

Yes, only in a Tier 1 Units where they will command a sniper unit. I was a Master Sniper which I ran a class every post OTC which I trained new snipers as well as a new officer that would command our troop. It is critical for a Troop Commander to understand the fundementals of sniper operations and operational sniper support. All officers in CAG go throught the same training as the NCOs.

Why? There’s lots of skills courses officers might want to go through. It’s not their job. Officers generally lead people and manage resources. They plan, direct, and evaluate operations or functions. Sniper training might be beneficial for the OIC or commander of the sniper school.
