Can I add my brother as a dependent?

I’ve been enlisted for the US Army for awhile and I was wondering if I can have my brother become a dependent so he can live with me. He has diagnosed mental issues and currently receives a check from the government because of those. He has a hard time living on his own. What do I need to bring to S1?

You need to be providing more than 50% of his living expenses to be able to claim him as a dependent.

Well first and foremost, you have to prove that he is in your care. It also helps by gathering all of his med docs and you have to fill out a dependent for from DEERS. its going to take some time, but do the process correctly and get all your DUCKS IN A ROW then there should be no problem. Cross your "T(s)" and dot your "I(s)". It took me 9months to get my parents approved but it was all worth it. Good Luck!

You should be able to, My Mom's Aunt who was in the Navy for 30 years had an elderly relative, Her Mom living with Her Who was a Dependent and only Her to take care of Her Mom, My Great Grandmother.
