SFC Private RallyPoint Member 7266229 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I will be getting my first look for SFC in next February&#39;s board (2022). The following month, I will hit 17 years AFS (prior service, date of rank resets, etc). Since there&#39;s no telling exactly when I would get pinned since I would have to attend SLC and wait for my number to come up, I would definitely be going past my 20 in order to meet the &quot;high 3&quot; requirement. I do not plan on staying 1 single day past 20 as I have other things lined up that I want to do. Can I deny promotion if selected? Or do I submit a letter to the board asking not to be looked at? Is there anything negative that can come of this? Can I deny promotion to SFC or submit a letter to the board asking not to be considered? 2021-09-13T17:03:31-04:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 7266229 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I will be getting my first look for SFC in next February&#39;s board (2022). If you have a low OML number and are selected to attend SLC, what you can do is drop a School deletion 4187; your justification for school deletion will be “Transitioning out the Army planning to drop retirement packet 18 months out”. You are not considered fully qualified for promotion until you attend PME school, so you will not be selected for promotion. But based on what you are saying and your timeline it won’t matter. Even if you got selected next year with a low OML number, got an early SLC and got picked up really early you could still just get out at 20. And for your last year or 2 make E7 pay. I read it, I just don&#39;t remember exactly.<br /><br />If you are promoted you can request to retire at 20 but HRC has been denying a lot of those retirements in the last few years if they don&#39;t have three years. It messes up their strength projections Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 14 at 2021 1:38 AM 2021-09-14T01:38:19-04:00 2021-09-14T01:38:19-04:00 SFC Private RallyPoint Member 7271895 <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>If you deny it, you will not make it to 20. I denied E8 and submitted my retirement packet.. but I was over 19. I&#39;ve heard you can catch a 6 month gtfo memo for denying promotion. I&#39;d have to read it again but I know there is a bar to continued service added if you deny promotion.
