Can I get a waiver for Anosmia?

I'm a High school senior getting ready to graduate in May. I really want to enlist in the Air Force or Navy but I have a health condition that may disqualify from enlisting. I have Congenital Anosmia which is a loss of smell. I've had it since birth and it has never bothered me. I can taste, and hear well and I have 20/20 vision. I never had brain surgery or had any serious injuries. I'm completely healthy, thank God. I just can't smell anything unless there is something burning. Can this really disqualify me from enlisting? Is it possible for me to get in with a waiver? I really I am serious about joining but I am scared that Ill fail MEPS because of this one weird condition I've lived with my whole life.
Let me make this a little more clear though. I was told when I went to get an mri that I just dont have that sensor in my brain that allows me to detect smell. I never had brain surgery nor have I had any head injuries. I was just born without the ability to smell and I just lived my life like this till this day and it has never caused me any issues with my health. So it isn't like regular Anosomia or Parosomia because I really cant smell anything nor confuse any smell with another. I think I can only dectect when something is burning because inhaling the air bothers my nose. Same with sanitizer or alcohol because its a strong chemical that bothers my nose when inhaling it.

I really want to know if its possible for me to enlist with my condition before I start my enlistment process. I don't want to get my hopes up and then have them tell me I don't qualify.

Truly, that one I've honestly never encountered, I genuinely don't know...if I see anything about it, I'll try to send it...it's help to know what fields you'd want, which svcs, also, I'd you'd want a clinical field at all, look at USPHS Me and Sr COSTEP, the USPHS analogues to ROTC...USPHS has active duty, I'd wanted to go back in that way as I'd trained as under an O-6 with them during an externship for my clinical allied health doctorate before my total perm dksability...also, there are the state defense forces (SDFs), look up a group called SGAUS, it "might" help if you did time with an ADD if your state has one, not all do, you can't be deployed, also, I'd you get a cha Dr too go Federal later on, most SDFS, as I I derstand, release members who go into a Federal branch...SDFs don't deploy, they're the supplements to the Natl Guard, both ARNG and ANG, Army and Air, I merely suggest it as a possibility...USPHS could afford you a way few try for active duty, whether they'd allow for such a oroblem, I also don't I kw, they have till free recruiting lines, the one I know is [login to see] , if you went into a psych related clinical field, they let svc more serve with Army, Navy, and USAF, as well as USCG, NOW A Corps, and with NIH, FDA, CDzc, Brueau of Prisons, the Indian Health Svc (IHS) on reservations, AHRQ, and other Federal organizations, trust me, call them, I'll look for anything else I can find, ok!

Look.at these, I actually found a good deal, though I can't say whether these would apply to all.fields in all svcs, that's esp why I suggest USPHS, ok? Their age limits tend to be higher, up to 44, they also use engineers, comp.sci (CS), IT, health admin, trust me, as I'd said, call them and ask, ok? Maria Medina - I've never heard of that medical issue before. It must be fairly rare. It's been a while since I've been through MEPS, but I do not remember any "smell test". Hearing, vision, full physical, Dental, the "duck walk" etc. but never any tests on smell.

It probably won't be an issue, especially since you can smell things burning. You'll probably have to speak with a recruiter before going through MEPS to see what needs to be done on this issue. There may be a question on a medical issues and procedures on some medical information form you'll fill out at MEPS. What medical issues you've had, especially if you've been seen by a doctor in the past for it. Just be upfront & not hide it. That way no one can come back later on & say you didn't disclose something. Good luck & hope you make it through.

Get a checkup and a current opinion...test on the most powerful smells yourself like garlic or onion....choose an MOS ...AFSC...that is safe...no air crew or mechanics, etc...talk to a recruiter in another branch (Army) and city and get their answer.....then...it's up to you to bring it up with the branch of your choice or MEPS....

If they do not ask about anosmia then dont tell them about your anosmia. Keep in mind it may become an issue, depending on where you end up and what you have to do. Nobody is perfect but everybody has strengths especially those who have learned to live a unrestricted life with restrictions.
