Can I get transferred into the IRR if I move to a different state than my current home station?

Moving to Tampa, FL next year and my current home station is in MD. Would like to know if my unit would place me in the IRR or look for a different unit for me down there. Also, would like to know if I have an option on whether I want to do one or the other.

I believe you'd have to find an open position at the gaining unit before you could transfer.

Just look for a local unit in tampa and initiate a transfer don't go to the IRR , it's really not needed.

You need to contact the Career Counselor assigned to support your current unit and request to initiate a TPU-TPU transfer. The ARCC will look for the closest vacancy available to the location where you’ll be moving to. As to having an option, just like anything else, you need to have a valid reason to request a TPU-IRR transfer.

Onel-1. Your responsibility to find a unit that will take you. (even tho your data must be wrong, assuming NG/USAR} 2. You signed a contract with the service you are in- why would they break the contract to move you to IRR? 3. Suggest you check out Tampa area for your service and see if they have an opening.

No you won’t get moved into the IRR automatically. You signed a contract and your unit paid for you to get trained for your job. What you need to do is talk to your career counselor and your CO and let them know you are moving and want to transfer to a unit closer to your new home. Now the important thing you need to know is you belong to your current unit. Your commander could refuse to release you and expect you to drill every month or some months and attend AT with them yearly and RST with a local unit at your new home. They also could be kind and help you find a new home if you can find a gaining unit with an opening for your position and wants to take the transfer.

Log onto HRC (https://www.hrcapps.army.mil/portal/), go to tools, vacancy search, select for your MOS, and look at Fl. This will show you all the units with vacancies and provide contact info.
As MSG Private RallyPoint Member said, if you talk with a career counselor, they can find you every unit in your new area that has your MOS.
Don't go to the IRR, it's a lengthy process to go through only to get denied b/c there are alternatives. TPU transfers are very straightforward!

I'd be surprised if your unit does anything. It's on you to find a new unit. Contact your current unit's ARCD representative and they will assist you.

I moved from Michigan to Florida as a TPU Soldier and there were no positions in my current MOS so I was reclassifed into another MOS. It worked out for me because I already had experience in my new field. I was also promoted at a faster rate than had I stayed in my previous field. My unit did the work for me in finding a location based on where I lived.

to answer your question, yes. Your unit/supporting career counselor or recruiter will help you find a unit or transfer you to IRR. make sure you notify your leadership in a timely manner and follow up. I did it several times while I was USAR. there can be issues. I was once transferred to a unit in the wrong state. I was also transferred to the IRR for not attending drills but was on extended AD (ADOS). keep lines of communication open.
