I still have another year of school to complete, so I'm not completely at the end of the road with ROTC but I'm close. I was talking to a MP Major who told me that at MP BOLC there is sometimes and opportunity to give up your commision and become a warrent instead. My main question is can I jump ship right now and go through that process instead of finishing this last year of school and commisioning? I'd much rather become a warrant where I'm more hands on in my career compared to an officer which is more management related, especially since my end goal career wise is to become a cop/detective.

TL/DR: Can I give up an ROTC scholarship to become a warrant officer? That being said, I'd offer a thought, of I might...I'm assuming you're doing your bachelors rs, I gather, I'm assuming in criminal justice or some related aspect, pike cynersecuriry or forensics. Purely as a thought, only because you're doing the bachelors now, of you finished it, and please note, of, why not just petition to be allowed to finish the bachelors only since you're so close to the end, to be allowed to go in as a warrant, instead of commissioned? I !mean, consider...tour stillne serving Uncle Sam, so Army would still get its use out of you, it's purely a !after of your personal preference as to how, that's all I'm trying to say. Now of you've already committed to a specific commissioned MOS, then, of course, that:s different, however, if you'd still he in the same!e branch, I can't see why if you prefer warrant, its be a totally big deal, you know? Then, too, I've known of instances where members in one service commission into another SVC, I'm not saying you want that, I'm !wrely saying I've seen it happen. I've k own of Annapolis grads who went USAF, when my brother finished USMMA Kings Point and I commissioned him, at the graduation, many went Army, USAF, one woman went NOAA Corps. Many also went USMC, however being as USM!A is NROTC legally, that was to be expected, however, many also went USCG, I've also known of those who'd wanted to go USPHS, USNR also allows Merchant !marine, though that too is to be expected. My point is, if you're getting the bachelors, whynthrow it away? Why not just petition to go warrant instead? I mean, I might be a trifle naive, I get that, and I'm not intending to be simplistic, nor did I see the article suggested about how to do it, I'm simply pointing out that I just thought submitting a petition to ask to be allowed, might at least do some possible good, you know? In any event, you'd need a masters from day one, whether commissioned or warrant, I'd expect you'd be reqd to get that whole working, I was expected, I'm just pointing it out purely as another thought, OK? If you could also be allowed to stay where you are to get one, then go warrant, its he less distraction for you, and let you focus in your work, just another thought, OK? The answer is no, not like you think. If you do not go from Commissioned Officer to Warrant, you will have to enlist. If you enlist, you will have to go about becoming a Warrant like every other enlisted Soldier. This will take quite a bit more time as you will have to meet the minimum requirements which is usually E5 (or higher) with a minimum number of years of experience. The only quick way to become a Warrant is to become a pilot. Going from Commissioned Officer to Warrant isn't all that easy, but it could be quicker to do than enlisting. Additionally, to get ahead on promotions you should finish your degree while you can. The degree helps your resume when applying for just about anything these days.
