I’m in the national guard and I am on orders right now for covid relief. I specifically am helping with supply and today while moving things for our OCIE cage I severely hurt my shoulder. Can I go to a regular doctor? The closest base to me in Camp Atterbury and it’s about 3 hours away! And the armory I am at right now does not have a sick call!

PFC Payne, I work for the J1 in the JOC. Ibsaw your post and am trying to help you out.

Please provide me a little more information. I just looked at our PERSTAT for COVID Response and do not see your name. What C2 district do you report to? It concerns me a bit that you aren't being reported kn the PERSTAT.

To (partially) answer your question. You'll need the the Admin or S1 to complete some paperwork. Yes, you can see a civilian provider, it will be mich easier if you have the paperwork with you before going. However, if you're in a tremendous amount of pain, go to he doctor. They can catch paperwork up on the back side.

This is the correct answer, while you can go see a civilian provider, you need an LOD from the commander before the Army pays for it, or gives you a profile. The downside is that civilian providers don't work in military paperwork so like CPT Himmelhaver suggests, you will need to bring a few forms with you. Be prepared, some providers don't like it.

The sooner you start the process, the easier it will be in the long run.

First things first, are you sore, or are you in pain. Next, if you are on title 10 orders, call or go online to Tricares website and they will tell you where you can and cant go. Also, speak to your first line.

In the Guard, it's not worth trying to push through pain (especially back) thinking that it will go away. If he comes off orders and is still having issues, it will be a lot harder to have it service-connected later. Better to get it documented, even if the provider just gives you ibuprofen and tells you to drink water.

even if the armory does not have sick call, your CoC should have a sick call policy. If they don't, someone has dropped the ball. talk to your first line leader and if they can't help, see your PSG and keep moving up the chain. Also, if you severely injured yourself, someone should have done an injury or serious incident report assuming you told someone you got hurt.
