Can I go to IG for being moved to s3? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-i-go-to-ig-for-being-moved-to-s3

So back story:
I was talking with my PSG and PSG from a different company, and it came up that I could really use some rifle company time seeing as how I’ve been in a heavy weapons platoon for some time now. The PSG who is not mine said he would talk to his 1SG and see if they could use an nco. My PSG said he would talk to ours. Next thing I know my SGM is getting mad at me and said that I am back dooring him as well as my senior NCO’s and I am now going to s-3 Thu, 21 Nov 2019 13:12:49 -0500 Can I go to IG for being moved to s3? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-i-go-to-ig-for-being-moved-to-s3

So back story:
I was talking with my PSG and PSG from a different company, and it came up that I could really use some rifle company time seeing as how I’ve been in a heavy weapons platoon for some time now. Soldiers always think the IG will tell a Commander what to do. That is the furthest thing from the truth. The IG will not do anything about this. This is a command issue. The IG will support the command and allow them to make a decision based on their needs 100 times out of 100!!!! The CSM can put you where ever he has an open slot for your MOS and grade on the MTOE.
The IG will only be interested if you end up in an MOS mismatch or slotted more than one grade below your current grade in your proper MOS, and then only if there are no shortages of the proper MOS for the mismatch in the unit. But "Can you go" Yes you can always go see the IG. Then your CSM calls a guy like me, which ideally he could have done before you put yourself out there, to find out his if moving you is doable and I tell him "SGM you're killing me, I am fighting for bodies and now I have to explain to manpower why we are just giving them away." MSG Gary Eckert Thu, 21 Nov 2019 15:00:01 -0500 2019-11-21T15:00:01-05:00 Response by SGT Dave Tracy made Nov 21 at 2019 3:47 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-i-go-to-ig-for-being-moved-to-s3?n=5261072&urlhash=5261072

Sounds like an informal discussion has morphed into something wholly different--and a lot uglier--than you probably imagined at the start of that conversation.

When I read your story, I thought working the chain-of-command is the 1st, best, and perhaps only path that even gives you a shot at fixing this predicament. First: Yes, soldiers can go to the IG for a variety of issues - this isn't one of them. Sure your SGM is mad. You did go through the back door, talking to a PSG from another company. If you wanted to transfer, keep it in-house. Go to your Platoon Sergeant privately, let him talk to your First Sergeant, who in turn will discuss with your SGM. Hopefully you would have gotten support from your chain of command for your request.

Second: So your SGM is placing you in S-3. What are you complaining about. S3 is responsible for training in a battalion. In a deployment, the S3 is in charge of operations planning. Training is the most important thing a unit can do second only to a deployment. Personally, I would consider it an honor to be in the S-3 for my unit. My advice DO NOT GO TO THE IG. At least for this. This is not a battle that you can win. More importantly, it is not one you should fight. Do your job sergeant. learn what you can and help your fellow soldiers learn to do theirs.
