Can I reenlist in the Navy reserves after getting a separation with a RE-3f? Can I keep my rate (gm)?

Today I learned I was being admin separated from the navy reserves for failing 2 PT test in a 3 year span (very embarrassing) Which is 100% my fault obviously. I know my RE code is going to be RE-3F and I know I can get a waiver to get back in. How likely is that going to happen? Will I be able to keep my rate in the reserves? What's the process?

You are asking the wrong question. The question you should be asking is, 'Can you please help me identify and change the behavior that is causing me to fail basic PT Tests.'

OK tough love time. Although there is a mechanism for waiver, the question would be is it better for the Navy to take you back vs. other options? The services bring in a certain number knowing they'll have attrition for all sorts of reasons. You're a crap shoot and if you're around the same weight, same condition, etc. when trying to get back in, then the odds are nil, especially in a downsizing environment. Yes, downsizing. Upsizing won't occur until new appropriations, new "ceilings", etc. The best chance is a serious lifestyle change and capability to more than just pass the test. The process is you work with a recruiter who should have the current protocols telling them what the Navy is interested in. If they are or are not interested in working with you, the answer will be quickly apparent. In general, waivers should be for exceptional circumstances, not just doing a routine paperwork drill. So it's a matter of your mental orientation and efforts knowing that even those might not make a difference.

Now that's said, the secondary question is that the reason you're being tossed or is it the easiest way to get rid of you? Don't overlook that serious piece in the mirror. During the past 2 years or so, the leadership was coming to a conclusion whether or not you're worth keeping around. PT is one item amongst others. It's been done, but the odds are against you.

GOOD LUCK!! You will need it! In 1980 after Vietnam they started cutting back and decided the Senior enlisted's were the place to do it. Typical Pentagon Stupidity, Shitcan the people who know how to do everything, and then bring in the little boys and girls who know nothing and then let them funble around till they eventually learn what the hell they are dong. I was a Senior Second Class, going up for First. I was 8 pounds over my weight limit, just went to Shore Duty after my full tour of Sea Duty plus a year as an AO. I PNA'd the first class exam, for .08% of a point because of my Quarterly Evaluation Since I did not look good in the Uniform because of my Weight (8 pounds) But yet it did not affect my job performance. The only AO on the base who knew how to charge Nitrogen bottles for the LAU7 rails fr the Sidewinder Missiles, the only AO on the base who had ever worked with WP warheads, the only AO on base who was an M61A1 technician, plus a E5 filling an E6 billet. So they started the paperwork for Discharge but before that they sent me to Homestead AFB, The Air Force, tested me to see why I would not loose weight, as the NAVT put me on a weight loss program and no weight lose, I bulked uo but no weight loss. the Air Force Said, No Problems Service member is Fit return him to duty. I had a 2 star General tell me that if the Navy kicks me to come join the Air Force They would take me. I told min No thanks., They sent me to D.D.E. Medical Center in Augusta The Army Doctors tested me, they even slapped me in a set of fatigues and sent me out to an obstacle course and had me run it a few times with the Signal Corps, The ARmy Doctors told the Navy, Service member is Fit for Duty. Then they sent me to the naval Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. they tested me and offered to do a Gastric ByPass for me. which would have ruined my career as an Aviation Ordnanceman, No more arming aircraft. I was not going to trust my career or my life on unproven medicine. Next I called my Senator (Strom Thurmond) and Representative (Floyd Spence) I was called to personnel and had my ass chewed bya Civilian personnel Officer because he had his chewed by two Congressional offices. and on the front of my record was a big red stamp "PC" for political connections" which is a violations of military regulations. Needless to say I was Discharged for Convenience to the Government like thousands of other Senior Enlisted Servicemen and women.

Six months later I got a call from my detailer, they wanted me back in... They needed my MOS for a project they were starting. I said sure, give me the six months back pay, no break in service and the stripe they kept from me and I will report to Orlando in a week to be re-outfitted with all new uniforms. They refused to do any of what I required, so I told them to pound sand. I was making twice as a Rookie Firefighter, what I was drawing as a Senior Second Class.

There is a reason why you should never use the two words "Military Intelligence" in a sentence. they are mutually exclusive and mean the totally opposite these days.
