Can I request an early PCS if I get married?

If my soon-to-be wife is reserves and stationed in California, but I’m stationed in Virginia, can I request a PCS even though I haven’t served my time here yet?

Why can't your fiance join you in Virginia after you get married? What happens if, after you get stationed in California like you want, you get hit with a short tour in Korea and then get stationed at Ft Drum?

The chances of you getting reassigned in CA. is next to zero. Early PCS has to come with an assignment and or a reason. Maybe a reenlistment option, or hardship. Being separated from your spouse, a condition created while you are under an obligation is highly unlikely.

It is great that you found the love of your life, you simply need to relook your priorities.

Highly unlikely. What can be done, after reading they other responses, is to have your wife get with her reserve center retention office to do a search of reserves units....say within 1K miles...of your Virginia location that has open slots for her rank and MOS. If there are, she can submit for transfer. That would be the easier way to be together

To answer your the question you asked, Yes you can request an early PCS.
To answer the question you DIDN'T ask, No, it will not be approved, most likely. I never say never, but I'd give you less than a 1% chance.

You can request anything you want. The REAL question is whether it will be approved - and who you have to talk to to get it approved. Once upon a time, as a young PFC, I requested a "battlefield promotion" to CPT (this was part of a long set-up practical joke - I had absolutely no hope for success). Created a packet and everything. Surprisingly enough, the request was denied. No idea why.

If your spouse is in the USAR she is not stationed in California. You are on Active Duty and you ARE stationed in VA. Your spouse can move anywhere she she chooses at her own cost, but you can only move where the Army stations you and the Army will pay you.

As an initial term Soldier you will generally not be eligible to move until you reenlist, 15 months from ETS. At that point your report date will be 6-12 months later

Not NO but Hell, NO, the service doesn't and can't work that way. All PCS's are balanced, so many come out and so many come in, just like recruiting. You want to get married then wait, or it will be just like an unaccompanied tour to Korea, Germany.

Your spouse needs to talk to the career counselor/retention nco for her location. They will assist her in finding a slot per her pmos and rank, the general rule is 2 up 1 down meaning if shes an e3 she can transfer into a e4 or e5 slot or an e2 slot. Once she finds a unit she will need to initiate a transfer packet at her unit. They usually take 1-3 weeks to process. She can RST (reschedule training) at a unit local to her instead of traveling back to california. Feel free to pm me if she needs the transfer forms and i can send them over.
