I plan on scheduling HHG prior to leaving for BOLC and drive with my spouse ( 2 POVs) to Denver, and head to Sam Houston while she stays there while I finish school. I’m asking here since I have not received my orders yet and wanted to do some planning for the move ahead. Usually I’m good with PCS but have never done a PCS in conjunction with TDY. Any insights will be appreciated. Can I schedule HHG prior to leaving for AMEDD BOLC and move my wife to the in-laws while I’m TDY en route with follow on assignment to Hood? 2019-04-23T00:45:52-04:00 2LT Private RallyPoint Member 4570825

I am currently in Washington State and will be heading to AMEDD BOLC in July with follow on assignment to Fort Hood. I’m not 100% at all but I do believe that your HHG’s are only authorized to be shipped to the location on your orders. There is also an option for some shipment of personal items up to a certain weight during your TDY. Again, by no means am I certain on my answer but definitely suggest getting to a transportation office and running it by them. When you get your levy packet in your email it's one of the four choices you're given for TDY Enroute with family members.
Of course, if you're going to AMEDD BOLC that means you're a direct commission and that raises a whole slew of interesting issues during the direct commissioning process. For starters, you won't receive assignment instructions like enlisted personnel, you'll need to submit your request for orders (RFO) after your commission. Make sure transportation has a good number to reach you because they are going to call you once your HHGs arrive to Hood to try and coordinate with you a delivery date and time. When you talk with transportation prior to your pick up, make sure to inform them you are TDY enroute.

Also make sure reassignment is aware your family will not be remaining in Washington and you will be relocating them to an alternate location while you are in school. This way they can add in your orders that you are assisting with the relocation of your dependents. If this is in your orders you are authorized 10 days of PTDY(must be on the front end of the leave). Example for remarks in the DA 31:
PTDY (15 Jun - 24 Jun 2019 relocate family); Leave (25 Jun - 6 Jul 2019); TDY dates (7 Jul - 31 Aug 2019) Leave (1 Sep - 15 Sep 19). The dates listed is an example of how the information needs to be in remarks on your DA 31. I hope this helps....
