Can I switch my MOS prior to AIT? Or, if after completing 92A AIT, can I do a 12B AIT? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-i-switch-my-mos-prior-to-ait-or-if-after-completing-92a-ait-can-i-do-a-12b-ait <div class="images-v2-count-0"></div>I have signed my contract under delayed entry for 92 A logistics specialist but I realize now that I would enjoy 12B (combat engineer) which i was contemplating but decided against it. I do not ship for another year and since 12B ait is built into basic training I guess I wondered if I can switch MOS prior to ait or if after completing 92A ait can I do 12B 4/5 week ait even though it is usually built in to basic? Just going to involve some paperwork. As for Option B of going from 92A to 12B....yes, you would only need to complete the AIT portion. I know this as I had reclassed to 12B once upon a time ago. I arrived to the training company about a week prior to their BCT graduation. Did admin and inprocessing, had a 4 day pass, then started AIT. But, also bear in mind that you can&#39;t go straight out of 92A into 12B. You will have to wait a spell (especially if you got a bonus), before you can request reclass. Work on getting it changed to what you really want beforehand. Nothing is official until you actually raise your right hand, swear in and sign the contract. I get there are reasons for things in the Army but isn’t it a waste of their time and mine to send me through 10 weeks of one ait if I want to swith to a 5 week ait? Technically you&#39;re not in the army until you sign the contract and are sworn in. Talk to your recruiter and tell him that you&#39;re only going to do 12B OSUT. He might tell you any number of bullshit lines, but the only thing that can be promised is what&#39;s in your contract. If your contract says 92A, that&#39;s what they&#39;re going to have you do. It costs about $100,000 to train one soldier. If they were to send you immediately to another AIT it would cost another $30,000 to train you. That&#39;s a $130,000 investment before you are even useful to the Army. They won&#39;t do that for many reasons. There&#39;s an attrition rate of about 11-14%. You going through 2 sets of training will probably increase your chances of failure from an actuarial calculation. This makes the likelihood of your recruiter&#39;s promise almost nothing as the army wouldn&#39;t take that risk. That&#39;s why you need to tell your recruiter to change your contract to say 12B instead of 92A. If he doesn&#39;t, then tell him that you&#39;re not going to go through with the army. He&#39;ll take you seriously.
