Mission and your chain of command will dictate whether or not you will be authorized leave. Will it happen- depends on your unit. Your wants are not paramount to the unit, training so you will come home in one piece is. However, it is approved or denied by the Commander and the mission comes first before your personal desire. However, if nothing significant is going on when you want to take leave, it should get approved. It's been my experience, during my two mobilizations, that wherever you get attached to is not going to care about your personal needs at all.

As far as the holidays, if you're talking Thanksgiving or Christmas, it's rare that such leave would be denied, but due to operational constraints, it could be. Plan it out, and put your holiday leave in as soon as you know your timeframes.

As far as a civilian employment opportunity? Yeah, if I were a commander, even being a Reservist, unless it were at the very end of your orders, I'd deny it. You let them mobilize you, you need to concentrate on the job for which you were mobilized.
