SPC Private RallyPoint Member7047478

My understanding is that you don’t sewn on name tapes and ranks with the combat top. If my boonie hat rank is sewn on is it allowed that I wear it togetherCan I wear a boonie hat with a sewn on rank with a combat top that is not sewn on?2021-06-15T02:00:46-04:00SPC Private RallyPoint Member7047478

My understanding is that you don’t sewn on name tapes and ranks with the combat top. I see people all the time with rank and name tapes sewn on.

I'm pretty sure you can sew on rank to the boonie cap but I have rarely seen that authorized for wear. Not in any unit I've ever been in - not even when I was deployed.Response by SFC Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 15 at 2021 1:32 PM2021-06-15T13:32:44-04:002021-06-15T13:32:44-04:00SPC Private RallyPoint Member7048954

Generally speaking, yes. Whether it be garrison or field uniform, the PC is separate from the top blouse/combat shirt.

For an ACU top, if you sew on the rank, your nametapes need to be Sewn on too. However, that doesn't apply to your PC; your PC can still be pin on rank and velcro nametape. Likewise with the combat top/ velcro nametapes and a Sewn on boonie hat.

Whether or not your Company Commander authorizes it in the field is another story.

Chapter 4, Section 10e,
DA PAM 670-1, 26 JAN 2021Response by SPC Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 15 at 2021 7:11 PM2021-06-15T19:11:06-04:002021-06-15T19:11:06-04:00MAJ Private RallyPoint Member7049229

Yes you can, but good luck getting the commander to let you wear the boonie.

We’d rather just have troops get skin cancer than authorize it most of the time it seems. Probably why I spot a ton of nasty basal cell carcinoma on the ears and on the backs of neck in the VA.

Makes no sense not to allow the boonie to be worn in extreme sun and heat.Response by MAJ Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 15 at 2021 9:44 PM2021-06-15T21:44:16-04:002021-06-15T21:44:16-04:00SSG Private RallyPoint Member7049977

Technically you aren't supposed to sew anything onto any fire retardant uniforms.Response by SSG Private RallyPoint Member made Jun 16 at 2021 10:36 AM2021-06-16T10:36:31-04:002021-06-16T10:36:31-04:002021-06-15T02:00:46-04:00
