Can my 1SG make my record APFT not count?

This was my second APFT, and the reason behind the failure is a list of pre-existing medical conditions as well as having a migraine today. My 1SG was running with me, and when I finished my final lap she asked my age and told me I had failed. She then reprimanded me for constantly looking at my watch, saying it was the pacers job to keep time and not mine and that’s why I failed. She also told me this PT test was null and void and that I would be taking another one next month. When I went to the company, she didn’t allow me to do height and weight. I wasn’t aware 1SGs have the power to void a record APFT, even if they didn’t like my score. Is there a regulation or AR that supports her actions?

Well if you failed, she has done you a favor, besides you most likely would have had to taken it again if you failed.

I've never seen someone ask something like this when they've been given a second chance after failing. Take it an be happy you have 1 more month. As long as your PT Test is within the 6 month window dont worry, also there was recently a FRAGO out for the ACFT/APFT. Starting next FY you only need 1 record APFT and itll count for the entire year till the ACFT becomes record.

Take the gift your 1SGT gave and improve yourself,But if have a known med conditions,then why have you not gone to medical for tx.Be proactive and get yourself in shape medically and physically.good luck

Your 1SG is doing you a solid. As for the HT/WT, it does not have to be done the same day as an APFT. They are two separate programs. In fact, the HT/WT shouldn't be done the same day as an APFT. Soldiers will starve themselves to make tape which causes them to perform poorly on the APFT.

SPC Private RallyPoint Member, if I was your commander right now I would tell you “Shut up, Move out, and Draw Fire!” She’s doing you a huge favor by giving you the benefit of doubt. And to answer your question: yes, the 1SG can invalid an APFT. Can the CO counter her decision? Yes, but extremely unlikely!

She is covering your butt. Be thankful. And get rid of all the ailments causing you to fail the run. Or as already mentioned, if it is your goal to leave the Army, then it really doesn't matter what is said here. Just wait for your next PT test and fail it also. That should start the ball rolling for you.

AR 350-1 tells you everything you need to know. If your pt test never makes it to DTMS, did you even take one? The key here lies with who holds the key to the paperwork. That's 1SG. She really is doing you a favor by not having it count. There are procedures for retests in the above mentioned regulation. My advice to you is study the regulation, reapproach 1SG and thank her for her leadership. Whether you realize it or not, she cut you a break.

As nice as it is to have someone decide to not count a failure, it's not common at all. In my experience if you fail by 1 second, 1 rep, or 1 hour it doesnt matter. You'll get it next time. What is it...FM 3-22 for the APFT (someone correct me please) is not drafted by your 1SG so I dont see how they have the power the power to deviate or make their own exception and its "allowed." As much as we can say the regs are based on interpretation, this doesn't seem like a commonly accepted practice. This is a kind act and purely that so very lucky you.
However, if on your APFT it stated diagnostic and you were taking it initially for that, then it's a bit more realistic of a pass/brush it aside.
It's up to the Commander and 1SG for any deviation from process, its gray however that if this is let loose among the unit and others want the same treatment.....good luck with that.

Not recording the failure and rescheduling your APFT was a gift given to you by your 1SG at her discretion. You should have just thanked her and moved on, but you seemingly want to second guess it? I think you picked the wrong line of work.
And BTW, you have no idea of the power of the SNCO. Keep making excuses and you will soon find out.
Looks like you are at a critical crossroads. Start being a soldier or prepare for life after. You can still salvage it if you really want to.

It is clear that you have an agenda. You either failed on purpose or you are not thinking clearly. If your leadership is willing to give you a break (and I agree that it is an odd way of doing it) why would you push back. If my initial assessment is wrong and you wish to continue to serve, go on sick-call and see if you are worthy of a temporary profile. Work through that profile, and thank your leadership for taking a chance on, and believing in you.

Your 1SG May be a bit misguided but she obviously has your best interest at heart. She obviously thinks you are worth the risk. So one last time if you did not get it the first time, see a medic and thank your 1SG for caring. Thank you for your service.
