Can my contract years be lowered ?

I signed my contract for the 25B mos last week it is slated to be 5 years and 35 weeks in total. Im in DEP if that helps. I am wondering is it a possibility to lower my contract by a year. Or is 5 years the standard for 25B's ?

Yes. Tell your recruiter you need to fill out a PRC-E7 form. He'll be able to help you.

4 years is typical for 25B, 5 years must be for some reason. You just signed be-line to the recruiter and get clear on your contract and resolve it now. Good news, you will have significant training and experience in technology, if you apply yourself, when you finish your time, there will be many employers who want to hire you.

I signed the same contract in 2012. AIT is almost 5 months. Use all of those years to get IT certifications for free. The experience you will gain is priceless. Trust me having certifications are worth their weight and more in gold.

Recruiters have been screwing over enlistees for as long as a military has existed and yet, everyone is somehow still surprised when their recruiter slips them the big green weenie.

Go to as many schools as you can, schools= time away from the unit and gaining good knowledge. Also it will come in handy when it's time for the promotion board/soldier of the month board.
