Whe you hit the primary zone you are required to attend the promotion board. You don't even have to pass. But if you refuse you will be barred. You can go and fail every single month with no repercussions. But you cannot refuse. SFC Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 08 Dec 2021 18:46:43 -0500 2021-12-08T18:46:43-05:00 Response by SSG Rafael R. It will be a learning experience, and if you are not selected for promotion this round you will have a good idea what to expect in a later board appearance. Good luck. The board may also be good practice for times you are expected to perform other tasks for which you don't consider yourself ready. You are expected to go for the experience and knowledge in addition to working towards promotion. Refusing to go is failing to follow a lawful order and that could result in punishment such as barring you from reenlisting.

If you plan on sticking around you need to attend because pushing back on something so trivial will leave a lasting black spot SSgt Christophe Murphy Wed, 08 Dec 2021 19:18:15 -0500 2021-12-08T19:18:15-05:00 Response by SFC Ralph E Kelley made Dec 8 at 2021 7:58 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-my-unit-barred-me-from-future-reenlist-by-not-attending-the-promotion-board?n=7411282&urlhash=7411282

When I was active they certainly could bar you and the majority of the times they did bar the soldier. The only time they did not was when the person submitted for retirement or was pending discharge for medical reasons. Failure to go results in an automatic bar. SSG Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 08 Dec 2021 20:23:57 -0500 2021-12-08T20:23:57-05:00 2021-12-08T18:38:42-05:00
