Unless it is anticipating an immediate deployment. The BN or BDE CSM typically makes that determination and request through your branch manager. If your orders were deferred consider the probability of going somewhere soon. With that said, that doesn't mean your CDR isn't going to make a big stink at the next level if he"s already trying to retain you. Just shoot your branch manager an e-mail saying that you prefer disapproval of the action. If the orders come down again from DA, they will likley be "No deferment/ no deletion" and you will PCS as ordered. Sometimes that takes a third time.

The BDE/DIV will need to justify your authorized position and you filling that line number. Your perception that the unit "has enough" means little and is likley not ground truth..though it may look that way from your fox hole.

If the new position you're headed to is a mandated fill (DS, AIT PSG, Recruiter. ROTC) you likley will get a second set of orders noted "No deferment/ no deletion"... and your unit will have no choice. If not that kind of a slated position, you're likley staying till the next ORders cycle Response by SGM Erik Marquez made Nov 13 at 2016 6:52 PM 2016-11-13T18:52:35-05:00 2016-11-13T18:52:35-05:00 SSG(P) Private RallyPoint Member 2072628

No I didn't relist for a duty station, I just came down on orders. I got there in 93 and only way i got off ft hood was to medical. That was 99.same company ,platoon and squad. With all the other NCOs there i would never have got E7 due even if i would have went to the BNOC I would never get a leadership position. I was suppose to go to Ft Bragg and got sent Ft hood. I tried everything even to go back to Korea. Although I have been out of the service 24 years now. You were always on a regular rotation to Germany and back to your "home Station" to Korea or a short tour and back to your home station. DA had not updated my promotable MOS and since they didn't I didn't go anywhere for six years while at FT Hood. I had a job I loved and then they corrected my MOS and I had to do everything I missed immediately ( except get promoted twice in my primary MOS which I missed because my promotable MOS was wrong)
Nowadays you get to turn down assignments, ask for and get deferments and even get to PCS to another duty station in the US? Wow nice not in my day that I recall.

As they used to say the army ( including your unit) will do what they want to do. Fighting your unit because YOU want to leave doesn't sound right to me. My unit sent up an operational deferment to delete an NCO upcoming DS School dates to be pushed back a few months due to a rotation , the SM is to report to school in 2 months and SM and myself has emailed his Branch manager/Talent manager as well as the DS Branch and they have yet to see the deferment yet and told the SM to continue to plan to report but the SM COC and NCO support channel has been giving the SM different answers saying they are waiting for the deferment the past 3 months. The SM was DA selected by HRC for DS school as well.
