Can prior service coming back in (with no break) get airborne on their contract?

If the Army needs it for your MOS, then maybe. You really need to ask this of your recruiter

How are you coming back in without a break? Prior service indicates you had a break. Anyway, you should be able to get Airborne in your contract as long as its available.

If you “come back in with no break” you re-enlisted. I say this as a former recruiter and as a person who “enlisted with prior service.” That’s the category that applies to soldiers who leave active duty (ETS if enlisted) and return to active duty. If, when you say “with no break” you mean you are still serving out your remaining obligation in IRR, you still broke service. Having said that, if you’re airborne qualified, the school is available and your MOS is compatible with airborne openings, I don’t see why you couldn’t get that guarantee. Not sure how difficult it is in today’s Army, but when I “enlisted with prior service” in 1972 (what!?!) after a 13 break in active duty while still in IRR, I was guaranteed precisely nothing. Not because I wasn’t qualified for anything, but because prior service returning to active service were a dime a dozen.

I had a 4 year break from 1997’ to 2001’, I got to select my duty station (FT. Campbell, KY) & airborne in my contract, then the last month of ADA Schooling, my classmate wanted to swap duty stations, so I got our orders switched. I wanted an HIMAD duty assignment and to still keep the airborne option from my original contract agreement … I got to select my new duty assignment/unit (108TH BDE/FT.Bliss, TX) which was the ADA only Airborne unit at the time (32nd).

So like it’s been said beforehand : The Needs of the Army 1st (in most cases), 2nd Do you qualify for the training, I came back in as a 32 yr. old and was fortunate with certain opportunities.

I went from the Guard to active duty so I was a prior service enlisted. I changed MOS (though choices for new MOS' were limited) and I was offered airborne school. Admittedly, this was decades ago, but I suspect the rules haven't changed.
