Can somebody enlist if they have a misdemeanor theft charge as a juvenile and the record was expunged?

A friend wants to join but got a misdemeanor theft charge as a juvenile but has had his record exsponged is being told he can't join

From my understanding the Army may not be taking any waivers that this time

Just because the record has been expunged does not mean that it cannot be seen....fingerprints does not change. What was the extent of the theft charge as in dollar amount?

Don't know if they are allowing currently, but he would need a waiver to join. I was in the same boat as him. I got in, and served an honorable eight years. Tell him don't give up.

Depends on what was stolen. He would qualify for a waiver if he was charged as a juvenile though

Expuged or not, if an applicant fails to reveal all charged, and it is found during subsequent investigations (livescan), the appicant will be disqualified for 6moths.

Army only has two types of charges, fellony, misdemeanor. 4 charge categories.. traffic, non-traffic, misconduct and major misconduct. Many times during the enlostment process, the applicant will be asked "... Expunged or not..." A lot of times applocanrs come in, and if not a single chare that os disqualifying, but a combo that makes them DQ.

All depends on what was stolen and the $ amount of what was stolen and what the current USAREC messages are stating at the time for waivers if he needs a waiver, also it doesn't matter if the charge was expunged or not that does matter at all.

Yes. However, if the decision to enlist them honges on that charge it is not fully exponged. The individual must submit a expongement order copy to local, state and federal agencies and that point of contact information may be obtained through the court. It does not just fo away by itself. I had a charge that was exponged and never had an issue with enlistment or obtaining my security clearance.

Yes he can. You just have to go through the waiver process.
