The short answer is yes, HOWEVER there are combinations of conflicts that you can not receive more than award of the CIB. Best example: I worked with a NCO that was in Vietnam, did Operation Power Pack (Dominican Republic) with the 82d in 1965, Grenada in 83 and Desert Storm. He was only allowed to wear the basic CIB, no Second Award was authorized.

Look at the ribbons the suspected fraud is wearing and see if the "Thank You For Playings" that he is wearing line up with the authorized time periods of the awards.

There were several infantrymen awarded the CIB three times including CSM Plumley of "We Were Soldiers Once and Young" fame. He was awarded them for WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. EdITED. CSM Plummet was awarded a second award in his official files, but there are pictures of him wearing a third award.

I have seen a few CIBs with a star denoting a second award.

One of our CSMs had served in WW II and Korea. When Vietnam occurred, he also served there.

"CSM King" of couse had aged. That being said, when Arval discovered he was locked out of his 'room', he broke the window and crawled in. I had not been drinking with him!

Yes, as long as they meet the criteria for two different award periods. Korea and Vietnam would be legit. More than one star is tracked by the Infantry Museum. There are like five or six left. AR 600-8-22 page 97 of the 2015 regulation:

(e) Servicemembers from the other U.S. Armed Forces and foreign military (infantry and SF equivalents) assigned or attached as a member of a U.S. Army infantry or SF unit of brigade, regimental, or smaller size may be considered for award of the CIB. All basic requirements as listed above must be met. Retroactive awards under these criteria are not authorized for service prior to 18 September 2001.
c. The CIB is authorized for award for the following qualifying wars, conflicts, and operations (see para 8–6g on subsequent award of the CIB):
(1) World War II (7 December 1941 to 3 September 1945).
(2) Korean War (27 June 1950 to 27 July 1953).
(3) Republic of Vietnam Conflict (2 March 1961 to 28 March 1973) combined with qualifying service in Laos (19
April 1961 to 6 October 1962).
(4) Dominican Republic (28 April 1965 to 1 September 1966).
(5) Korea on the demilitarized zone (DMZ) (4 January 1969 to 31 March 1994).

You can get additional awards of the CIB, it's denoted with a Star added to the badge. I think the highest anyone has gotten is 3 CIB's.

Just remember, if you see anyone with a 3rd Award (a CIB with 2 stars) they're like 99.99999% a phony BSer. There is a very small, prestigious list of 3rd Awardees and they would all be well into their senior years now.

It's very confusing if you try to compare it to the USN and USMC's CAR (Combat Action Ribbon) The CIB is much more restrictive in that it is awarded to Infantrymen only and for eras of time. The way to simplify it ( and the years I'm listing are probably off) is if you saw combat as an Infantryman in any war zone from 1941-1945, 1950-1953 , 1961-1998 and 2001-Present you rate a CIB with a stars designating subsequent awards.
The USMC award a CAR to any MOS that is involved in Ground Combat ( Colonel and below) They also award it for different war zones. Hypothetically a Soldier who saw combat in Vietnam, Beruit, Grenada, Panama, Somalia, Desert Storm, Afhganistan and Iraq would have a CIB with a single star on it Whereas His Marine Counterpart would have 8 awards total.

The CIB is authorized for award for the following qualifying wars, conflicts, and operations
There are 14 possible award periods, to include, eras, conflicts and individual operations, that are grouped into 4 qualifying events in four periods of time.
(1) World War II (7 December 1941 to 3 September 1945).
(2) Korean War (27 June 1950 to 27 July 1953).
(3) Republic of Vietnam Conflict. Service in the Republic of Vietnam Conflict (2 March 1961 to 28 March 1973) combined with qualifying service in Laos; Dominican Republic; Korea on the DMZ; El Salvador; Grenada; Joint Security Area, Panmunjom, Korea; Panama; SWA Conflict; and Somalia; regardless of whether a Soldier has served one or multiple tours in any or all of these areas. The Republic of Vietnam Conflict Era officially terminated on 10 March 1995.
(4) Global War on Terrorism (18 September 2001 to a date to be determined) (Afghanistan, OEF and OFS; Iraq, OIF and OND; OIR).

So Operation Urgent Fury, just Cause, Gothic Serpent all fell under the third qualifying time period..
The 4th qualifying time period Global War covers everything there after.

It would not be rare to see a second award, though it is getting so, I doubt there are many of us still serving.. I left service in Dec 2013

Yes. The Army tracks this very carefully. There are soldiers who earned the CIB at least three times (WWII, Korea, and Vietnam). The Infantry Museum at Fort Benning also maintains a list of those awarded multiple CIB. I would presume there are those who have eared multiple CIB in the current era as well (e.g. The Persian Gulf War, as well as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan...).

Yes. You see the same thing with veterans coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. Two different conflicts. The regulation is often misstated when someone from one of the theaters is in an event in the other theater would qualify them.

Example: Soldier received the CIB on tour in Iraq. Soldier was then in an event that qualified them for the award in Afghanistan. Soldier should be awarded the second CIB if in accordance with AR 600-8-22, Section 2, Para 8-6a.

AR 600-8-22, Section 2, Para 8-6b(5) gives the qualifications for after September 2001. The same AR and section, Para 8-6c(12) and Para 8-6c(13) show the two conflicts sighted separately. Likewise with Korea and Vietnam (Para 8-6c(2) & (3) respectively).

Any other question with this award can be referenced in Section 8-6 of the AR.

The whole issue of multiple awards of the combat infantry badge is so much smoke and mirrors that I defy anyone to come up with a rational explanation for it. For instance the Korean War is listed as 27 June 1950 to 27 July 1953. I hate to explain to you that I was there in 1968 and we were shooting it out with the Imu Gan almost every night and we had people in my platoon killed. My Combat Infantry Badge was awarded for Vietnam not for the Dominican Republic!!!

A Marine friend was awarded a CIB for 82nd service at the Battle of the Bulge. He then went to the dark side - and visited the Chosen Reservoir and Vietnam. Upon his retirement at MCRDSD, he was gratified to enjoy a 'depot' parade! Semper Fi! I have know a few Chosen Marines during my life! A few of the names still surface when I dwell on the past!

After seeing all the responses, mine included, I have come to the realization that we have too many entities defining "periods" for too many purposes. There is one definition that is in Public Law that the IRS follows. There is a different definition for the NDSM. And, possible the Army has defined yet another set for CIB. Y'all in the Army, sort it out. I just have to live with the Public Law definition for my organization to qualify as a "war veterans'" organization.

If I am not mistaken their are periods for the award, the Vietnam era ended after the Panama Invasion. SO if you were from that Era, and then went to Desert Storm, yes, which is why you would have a CIB with a star above it.

I got my first for Vietnam. Went to Grenada with 1/508, 1st Bde, 82nd Abn Div. Had to stand in formation and watch as they “gave” everyone that went that didn’t have one , a CIB. Said us Vietman vets didn’t get one cause we already had one. Went to SWA(Desert Shield/Storm) with 2/505, 82nd. They did the same thing to us vets! Tell me why it says in this article that I should have 3 stars and only have one ? Huh?

Yes. Back in those warring states, it was more common than not that survivors of those hellacious conflicts were awarded a CIB per conflict. Today, not so much unless you fought in Just Cause, Desert Storm, the GWOT and/or an undisclosed location where you earned it.

It's like they really don't wanna award the third award of the CIB ,I knew guys in SF, ranger units and even infantry that were eligible for it in the 80's but they wouldn't award it, they awarded two and said that's it but if you look at qualifying periods for el salvador, grenada, just cause, desert storm ,Somalia and some of these guys even served a tour in Vietnam. That's six different awards of it but for some reason the army said no, no more than two awards of it. I believe they are trying to make it like an unobtainable award except by a few like the MOH and soldiers who actually deserved it got screwed.

When I was a newly promoted Captain, assigned to Ft Benning for the Infantry Officers Advanced Course, I was assigned as the Escort Officer for LTG (Ret) Robert H. York, who was a good friend of my dad. He was at Ft Benning to attend the 200th Anniversary of the Infantry celebration. When I picked he and his wife up at the airport, I reported to him as LT Burleson (I had been promoted that morning). He looked at me and the rank I had on and said, "Don't you know what fu*king rank you are Captain"... I explained that I had been promoted that morning and we both laughed about it. He could not wait to tell my dad.

I got them to their DVQ went over the schedule with him, giving him my phone number should he need anything when I was not with them. I then left them to get settled, telling them I would pick them up for dinner in a couple of hours. When I returned, LTG York told me that he had been getting his uniform ready for the events of the next day and had forgotten to pack his CIB. He asked if I could go to Clothing Sales or the Infantry Bookstore to pick one up for him. He stated he needed one with two stars. Needless to say, I could not find one, as they had to be special-ordered. He wore one with one star for the events.

As I recall, he said the CIB with two stars were for Korea, Vietnam, and the Dominican Republic.

The qualifying eras for the CIB began in WWII; there are only four qualifying era's and therefore, the max anyone could have is four. Probably not possible because of the time periods required would mean at least 37 years of service (1945 through 2001). The eras are listed at this site:

I got two and they took them both back. Once as a Forward Observer with 1/27th Inf. 25th Inf Div. the other by 1st Inf Div at Dau Tieng. Both were cancelled because as an FO I did not have an Infantry MOS. Some Bean Counter also revoked the CIBs of 5th Special Forces Group

I know this is old, SSgt GG-15 RET Jim Lint, but I wanted to highlight this famous soldier's exploits. Colonel Ola Lee Mize (now deceased) was a recipient of the Medal of Honor and was awarded the CIB twice for actions in Korea and Vietnam. Read his bio. It's almost unbelievable, but it's all true! His CIB had one star, which denotes two awards.
I met COL Mize once in early 1972.

Subsequent awards of the CIB may be awarded provided the Soldier has met eligibility criteria in separate Qualifying Periods/Eras. For example, a second award with superimposed star on the wreath could be awarded for a Soldier who served in Somalia (3d Qualifying Era) and OEF (4th Qualifying Era).

My Dad fought in Africa, Scicily, Italy, France, Germany, Korea, and VietNam.....32 years as an Infantryman. I remember his CIB having stars on it.......My relatives ended up with all the photo albums and I dont have a single pic.....But I THINK dad got it 3 times.

There may be a few still serving worth one from Panama, Desert Storm, Somalia and either OEF or OIF. When I was stationed at Bragg in the 90s there were more than a few with Panama and Desert Storm.

We had a number of 3 times in the 173d in VN. For a short while, before it was corrected, men were authorized a CIB for Op Power Pack in 64 and then a second for VN. The revision used the WW II equation of one CIB for Europe no second for Pacific. There is a plaque, or was, at the InfantryMuseum that listed all recipients of triple CIBs.

Why do people pretend to be combat veterans when they are not? I don't understand why, what is the point? I am,.. and to tell you the truth I can't distance myself enough from that time of my life. I don't regret my service,.. idk,.. I just don't think there was anything that glorious about taking another life, or holding my friend while he was dying. Why are people so fascinated with this? During Vietnam it was very common to see two awards. One for Korea and One for Vietnam. Rare but saw a few from World War II Korea and Vietnam. Depending on the Date of the Conflicts will determine the number of individual awards. Don't know if any were awarded For Desert Storm or Grenada?
It would be extremely Rare to find a fourth award for World War I, World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. It would be Possible but extememely Rare.
If someone was 16 or 18 in 1917 lets say, then in 1941 they would be in around 45 Let us not forget their were two theaters in world war II so a third award could be granted for both the Euopean and Pacific Theater. Then Korean War which ended in 1953 The U.S had Military Advisors in Vietnam in 1950 but the war started in 1955 and esclated in 1960's. So Statistically it would be possible though by 1967 the WWI Vet would be 68 years of Age. If they were a Colonel or General it would be possible to obtain the 4th award. Possible but Higly not Probable.

A friend of mine who died last year, Charlie Green, had three awards of the CiB. WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Charlie served with the 27th Regiment (Wolf Hounds) of the 25th Infantry Division is all three conflicts. He was inducted into the Indiana Military Veterans' Hall of Fame in 2015.

The CIB is only given by era. Anyone claiming they "knew a guy" who should have/did have four because he was in Grenada, Panama, Desert Storm, Somalia and the GWOT is wrong. It is not given for multiple tours or theaters in the same war. If that were the case, there would be guys running around now with 5,6 and 7 stars. (Iraq and Afghanistan) The CIB was first awarded for service in WW2, then retroactively approved for the WW1 vets. Since then, it is broken down solely by era, based on the length and intensity of the conflict. Longer, more drawn out, generally gets its own era. WW2, Korea, Vietnam (Iran, Grenada, Panama), Desert Storm (Somalia [Bosnia if anyone was issued one for that conflict]), and the GWOT. Even if some hard ass SF or ranger type served in every action from Vietnam forward, he'd only have 2 stars and a bunch of great stories to tell over beers.

Part of the reason for not seeing 3 or 4 stars on a CIB....that means they are probably doing 20 or 30 years...and it would have to be still in the Infantry. That is a body that is getting old. Many people start out in INF and then re-up for a new MOS. But there are some studs who do decades in the infantry who probably deserve a heck of a pay raise.

In the Marine Corps and Navy you can be awarded the combat action ribbon multiple times if you served in different conflicts or were in multiple stages of that particular war such as Afghanistan I was awarded twice for the same conflict because they were different phases of the war Operation New Dawn ect

I was aware that they could be awarded multiple times, of course my term of service was about when a lot of Vietnam vets were retiring. Knew a pair of gunners (gunners mate guns) who had the award from the army and had decided to change service and went USN to finish their 20. II honestly think mostly because if the ship is carrying the artillery then you don't have to sit on a hilltop someplace and defend it!)

I have a question. Could two awards of the Combat Infantry Badge be made, If one was earned in Europe and one was earned in the Pacific? Two separate theaters of Operation and different chain of commands.
Also the same question applies if one was earned in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan? In example Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom.

I have known several who wore the CIB with two stars. They served as infantry in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. Never met anyone with three stars on the CIB.

Seeing a WW2, Korea, Vietnam infantryman with a CIB with two stars back in the 60s.

Contrary to what was said those without an infantry MOS in Vietnam serving as infantry were not generally awarded a CIB. An example would be those on a FO Team (forerunner of FIST) assigned to an infantry unit didn't get a CIB. They were infantryman unless they were calling in artillery but they didn't get a CIB.

However, under the regs at the time an officer from any branch could be awarded a CIB if they served in the capacity of an infantry officer. I remember reading about an MI officer being awarded a CIB in Vietnam.

There was talk of awarding a woman MP officer a CIB in Panama back in the 80s. She met the requirements but the issue was women were not authorized combat roles in those days. So if she was not authorized to be in combat how could she be awarded a CIB? She did meet the requirements.

Ok check out this guy I server under at Ft Bragg CSM 7th SFG and Draby's Rangers and Son Tai Raid etc and man confirmed to have the most POW rescue operations. He was knows as "Pappy" and true to the name, he also was part of the inception of Delta.

I’ve seen a few stars on CIBs. Guys that were in Panama and Desert Storm then went to Afghanistan or Iraq would have the star. I got my CIB as a PFC in Desert Storm but no star in Afghanistan asi was a UH-60 Pilot, ferrying SF guys around.

Those of us who served in Panama 89, received our CIB's. A lot of the same people went to the Gulf for Desert Storm but was not authorized a star since it fell under the same qualifying period. Those of us who were still serving after 9-11 and deployed earned our stars because it was a new qualifying period.

They add a star atop the bags for a second award. I'm an old fart and enlisted in the guard before going in the the Army, back in '76. Our Sgt Maj. Had served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He had a CIB with 2 stars signifying 3 wars. Old geezer had jumped into Normandy! He retired the year after I enlisted. Come to think of it, at 61, I,m now the age he was then. He could run PT with us, too. I couldn't do it. Bad ticker, high BP, and arthritis. I'm a mess.

The only thing I have to say is when did Desert Storm become SWA conflict. It was and is a global war with many participating countries. Everything I have says GULF WAR. I guess they are trying to sweep us under the mat like Vietnam.

You can be awarded as many as you qualify for. The time factor limits how many you can actually be awarded though. All 3 time awardees fought in WW II, Korea and Vietnam.

I was fortunate to have breakfast with General Frederick Kroesen (U.S. Army, Retired) in May of 1997. On the lapel of his jacket, he had a CIB with two stars. First time I’d seen that. I didn’t have to ask - I knew it was for WWII, Korea & Vietnam.

17 years later, I presented the flag during Military Funeral Honors in Marengo, Iowa, to the surviving widow of Colonel Russell Jones, U.S. Army, Retired, who was a Veteran of WWII, Korea & 5 tours in Vietnam. Someone told me that he also had a CIB with two stars, but I’ve never confirmed that. What a career of service!

30 combined years in all 3 components ( AD, NG, RES ) 1982-1992/1997-2017 not 11B for all of it.
Just Cause/Panama, Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom. If 11B and in the right duty position with the right unit one could've had 4 awards. Then you factor in Grenada, bosnia/Croatia? In the past 35 years there could be a good number of possible multi awardees.

I met one of the few who had three CIB awards (patch was sewn onto his jungle fatigues) when I arrived at Long Binh in may '69. The gentleman was a SSG, infantry, and appeared to be old enough (mid to late 40s) to be my father. he said he had been in WWI, the Korean war, and was on his third tour in Vietnam. I wished him well and I hope he made it through.

Yes, but not for the same conflict. For example, a star may be awarded if the soldier went to the gulf war, then to Iraq or Afghanistan during the war on terror. They may not however add a star for Iraq, and then Afghanistan.

Those that have proven certification of been actively exposed to combat (overtly/covertly) like the conflict in El Salvador and Grenada should be recognized by their actions/exposure. Those who only were present or administratively assigned should not. The CIB is a unique award and only presented to those that truly deserved.

simple answer is yes. Very common in the Vietnam era for CIB wit star for Korea and Vietnam and I have been a few with two stars for WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Same is true today. Department of the Army sets the rules for what constitutes different wars Multiple tours in the same conflict do not count that is what campaign medals are for with battle stars.. Much respect for anyone that traded direct fire with the enemy in two or more different conflicts.

Yes and some may have even caught the end of WW II and served in that as well as Korea and Vietnam like my father did. He caught the end of WW II while in the Navy and was among those for the planned invasion force of Japan when the war ended. Discharged at the end of the war he was a civilian for a few years before going back into the Marine Corps since they were taking people then while the Nave wasn't. He went on to serve another 26 years almost in the Corps before he retired in 1968 and did tours first in Korea and then later in Vietnam for which he received various campaign medals and awards for.

Sure they were in different Wars! As I learned from my 1st Sgt. in Vietnam in '67-'68 TET! "Cates I can do whatever I want with your BUT THIS IS A WAR ZONE"! I learned that one day when I got orders to become a Medic even though I had been trained as a 76y30 Supply/small arms repairmen and I went to him and that is when he told me that! Well I had had a little bit of Public Speaking Training in Jr. College and I thought it is my life on the line right now I/we had just heard that the same thing had happened to a friend of ours a few weeks earlier and sadly he had a leg blown off and sent stateside! So I decided I would go to the 198th Brgd. Headquarters down on the Chu Lai next to the Chu Lai Airport! So I went down made an appointment with a Col. I think for the next day and I walked in and he said how can I help you Troop? I said my orders have been changed to a Medic with some Infantry Unit and I don't mind dieing sur but I wasn't trained to be a Medic! The Col. said I I will change your orders back! The secretary typed up my new orders putting me back in my old MOS and I took it back up to the 1/14th Artillary Btln. Hdqt's Btry. and as I was walking to the Comand Post I ran into the 1st. Sgt. and he said are you ready to leave Cates and I CANT TELL YOU WHAT HE SAID! Oh what the Hell! No I better not BUT HE WAS SO MAD WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT THE Col. at Brigade changed my orders back THAT I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST GOING TO EXPLODE RIGHT THERE ON THE SPOT!!! All good! Hey anyone going to that Celebration in WDC this coming July 4th! Souds Great to me! It is so exciting to have a Pres. that thinks of what we do RIGHT rather than OUR MISTAKES!!!! Sp/5 Cates

the short answer is yes! WWII and Korea; Korea and Vietnam a few WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Army policy governs but you can't get a second award for multiple deployments in the same war that is covered by battle stars and campaign ribbons.

Yes. There are/were quite a few who would qualify for WWII, Korea, Vietnam. Most of them have left us now. I have heard of nobody who received four. Just to set off a firestorm, I have never understood why artillery forward observers can't be awarded the CIB. Or, the CAB like the CMB.

Yes. Not separate badges, but stars. My Drill Sergeant had 3 stars on his CIB. WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He was a consummate NCO. He knew when to be harsh, fatherly, and sometimes a confidant. Periodically, he marched us to an opening the woods, order us to sit down and relax, and then take off his hat, and ask us to talk about what we are learning, what more we can learn, and what it is like in combat. At 56 and survived 3 major wars as a Grunt, I would say he know his craft.

Based on a VERY limited knowledge of Awards and Decs...yes altho will be noted in indiv records pin or cluster to CIB is not normally worn. Yes, and Army Regs allow for stars above the CIB for each award. In our times you could be awarded the CIB for each of the following periods:

Second and third awards of the CIB are indicated by superimposing 1 and 2 stars respectively, centered at the top of the badge between the points of the oak wreath. To date, a separate award of the CIB has been authorized for qualified Soldiers in the following qualifying periods:

(1) World War II (7 December 1941 to 3 September 1945).
(2) The Korean Conflict (27 June 1950 to 27 July 1953).
(3) The Republic of Vietnam Conflict. Service in the Republic of Vietnam conflict (2 March 1961 to 28 March 1973) combined with qualifying service in Laos; Dominican Republic; Korea on the DMZ; El Salvador; Grenada; Joint Security Area, Panmunjom, Korea; Panama; Southwest Asia Conflict; and Somalia, regardless of whether a Soldier has served one or multiple tours in any or all of these areas. The Republic of Vietnam Conflict Era officially terminated on 10 March 1995.
(4) War on Terrorism (Afghanistan, Operation ENDURING FREEDOM) and (Iraq, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM).

THE CIB is awarded for ONE "war" at a time.

It is possible to currently have three CIB's i think; one for DS/DS one for Somalia, and one for GWOT.

When I was in basic training There was a sargeant E-8 with the CIB and 2 stars. We definitely listened to him. Only time I have ever seen the 3rd award.

Yes. As an Army JROTC cadet in the late 70s I had a retired SFC instructor who had been awarded it 3 times, one each for WW2, Korea, & Vietnam. He was a crusty old so-and-so, but a total professional and the most knowledgeable rifle marksmanship instructor I've ever met. He called it a "perfect attendance award". RIP SFC Grubbs.

There are four qualifying eras for award of the CIB, but, according to AR 600-8-22, but only three (CIB with two stars) can be awarded.

Back in the 80s and early 90s, there were a number of deployments that were placed in the "Low Intensity Combat" category. While many involved what most of us consider combat, i.e., getting shot at and returning fire, there were some for which combat patches and CIBs were not awarded. As I used to tell some of my students, "We may call it 'low intensity', but when you're getting shot at, it's pretty damned intense!"

If a person enlisted when they were 17 right at the end of WWII in 1945 and stayed in the service for 40 years (got out when they were 57 years old) which is not unheard of and then served in Korea, and then in Vietnam, and then went to the Grenada Invasion in 1983 and retired 2 years later couldn't they have received 4 of these Combat Infantry Badges? Unlikely I know, but still possible?

Slightly different but want to add the story of a hero of mine. George Nestor, USAF Retired MSG, was drafted into the army at the beginning of the Korean War. He served as a medic and was awarded the Combat Medic Badge(CMB), then, still during the Korean War, he volunteered to become an Infantryman( due to the number of Conscientious Objectors the medic MOS was adequately filled.). He was awarded the CIB for his service also. He then left the Army and returned to civilian life. After a couple years he decided to enlist in the Air Force. He subsequently served two

The CIB can be awarded several times. The hardest part must be in a 11b or 18 mos and engage armed combat. As service members get more rank they get into positions not eligible for the award for example in ww2,Korea in infantry units then in RVN era and not carrying the proper mos or working above brigade level.

I think it is possible to get three if you get liked up right. It has to be different wars but that is published an old easy one would be served late in WW ll , korea, and early RVN. Three different wars three awards if mos and unit line

I earned my CIB in Vietnam 1979. Was assigned to USARSO NCO Academy as operations SGT/Deputy Cmdt during Operation Just Cause. Worked as 11B, all on CIB wearers were awarded their CIB, CSM, another senior VN era CIB guy and myself all received "Certificate of Participation". Where's my star?

My dad earned his first CIB in WWII in Germany. He was called back in for Korea and was awarded his second CIB. He as in VietNam but not combat 1958 as advisor . My brother got his CIB as Special Forces in Nam. Dad had two Purple Hearts and Rod had none. I had a Heart but was told I did not qualify for the CIB since I was not 11B but 31M Radio Carrier.

I know several people who have been awarded 1& 2 Stars on their CIB's! I had a 1st Sgt in VN who had 2 stars on his!

I knew a Sgt mjr who had 3 stars. Lots of them during the Vietnam war. Considering WW2 ended 20 years earlier and Korea was only 12 years since it ended. Each distinct war is considered a cib award. Afghanistan and Iraq is one because it is part of the war on terror. In WW2, you had one cib if you served in Europe and the Pacific.
