A soldier who completes OCS is discharged as enlisted and then commissioned.
A national guard cadet is discharged upon completion of ROTC and then commissioned into the active component if selected. It's a normal part of the process. 1LT Private RallyPoint Member Wed, 25 Jul 2018 19:02:39 -0400 2018-07-25T19:02:39-04:00 Response by MAJ Grant Gutkowski made Jul 25 at 2018 7:09 PM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-someone-be-discharged-from-ad-under-ch-16-2-for-the-ng-ocs-program?n=3825480&urlhash=3825480

I was commissioned through OCS. On the last day, you sign your discharge papers, then almost immediately (I think we had to wait about two hours) sign your commissioning documents. So yes, I’m order to accept a commission, you must be discharged. You would need to be a member of the National Guard before you drop the package for OCS in the National Guard. You would need to finish your enlistment and then transfer to the National Guard, then apply for OCS. Most states will generally give three options at that point. The extended OCS over 16 months and included two AT periods, the NGB accelerated OCS that is 8 weeks, and the Federal OCS as Ft Benning. I am told that the accelerated course is a real BEAR. You have to have a 4 year degree to attend Federal OCS, 90 credit hours will get you into the other two.
