Can someone explain to me why the Army is afraid of Synthetic lubricants?

Im as sure as you are that they know how well they work and that they probably use them in their own vehicles. But then there is that side they call their job, (they are damn good at it too), "politics". Some say kick-backs, others claim job security while people like myself scratch my head, set back and proclaim its just plain stupid!
But we both know someone in the big business is making money for no damn reason and it isn't right.

DoD is our own worst enemy, we spec the standard oils in the RFP and the oil analysis/maint programs to change over will require Billions. I am sure we will figure it out, it may take years.

My helicopter has been using synthetics for decades. MIL-L-85734 XMSN fluid.
