Can someone, please, explain how TDY en route works? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-someone-please-explain-how-tdy-en-route-works

E6 MOS-T, I've been on nominative assignments and been away from the real army for 5 years and have never done TDY en route.
Currently, stationed in Fort A with TDY to Fort B and follow on assignment to Fort C. Where will I live while on TDY and what will happen to my dependent and all my HHG? I am still in joint branches environment and I am the only army guy here so no one here to help. You need to contact your end-gaining unit about housing ASAP. You can leave your family at your current PCS location, the come back and clear post before moving to your next PCS assignment. You would rate travel both ways.
You can request that your family be allowed to PCS to your new Assignment.
If you live on the economy, you can still request that PCS move to you next assignment like you would if you PCS'd from one base to another.
You can take your family TDY with you at your expense. The big downside will be that you can't get non-availability if you do that route. You would also need to check with your TDY location to make sure they would be command sponsored.
https://home.army.mil/lewis-mcchord/application/files/9215/3919/7001/TDY-Option.pdf

TDY-Option.pdf

CPT Lawrence Cable Sun, 08 Jan 2023 10:01:19 -0500 2023-01-08T10:01:19-05:00 Response by SFC Michael Hasbun made Jan 8 at 2023 10:35 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-someone-please-explain-how-tdy-en-route-works?n=8071650&urlhash=8071650

You are stationed in Location A
You are being reassigned to Location D
Between A and D, you perform a Temporary Duty (TDY) at location B.
So you go from A to B to D
So you went TDY in Location B while En Route to Location D
BAM! It will provide you with the instructions and the options. You can look them up in ar 600-8-11 where it lists the four options of TDY in conjunction with PCS.

Generally speaking, if you're leaving a CONUS assignment and PCSing to a non-dependent restricted location with your family, you will attend TDY and then return to clear.

Again, there is an entire briefing about this in your levy brief SFC Private RallyPoint Member Mon, 09 Jan 2023 07:43:39 -0500 2023-01-09T07:43:39-05:00 2023-01-07T17:02:18-05:00
