Try USAA's home buying service, if you are a member. They will make local recommendations for reputable Real Estate agents!

I don't know who you can talk to but highly recommend Pulte Homes for quality and lack of problems with construction if your buying a new home or to be constructed plan home. They also tend to build in the better areas around Chicago and have the greater opportunity to appreciate in value.

If you are 30% disability rated by the VA you can avoid the VA loan origination fee. Talk to at least three different loan companies. Your VA loan rate should be below the existing 30 year commercial rates due to the government backing.

Try Quicken Loans_ been using them since 1994, not always lasy to Qualify but by far the most Vet. friendly one I have used. Even with a divorce, new marriages and common ownership Still w the u4.
