They can't make you buy them prior to the wear out date.....but bear in mind it's the Commander, 1SG, Training and OPS NCO that designate what the duty uniform is for whatever evolution you are doing. Besides, you have a annual clothing allowance. The military usually sets an "authorized wear" and "mandatory wear" date. Until the mandatory wear date, you should be able to continue wear of the old uniform, assuming they don't come at you with "that uniform is faded - get a new one." Response by ENS Private RallyPoint Member made Sep 28 at 2016 4:35 PM 2016-09-28T16:35:54-04:00 2016-09-28T16:35:54-04:00 SSG Private RallyPoint Member 1930668

No they can't... For starters if you don't have the new ones the old PTs are still authorized and the commander can add but not take away so the standard is still the old ones they cannot make you wear the new ones before the wear out date of the old PTs. I showed up at Ft. Stewart in the old banana suit from the 80's. I asked my new 1SG what the PT uniform was, and he said that it was the new gray pt shirt and shorts. He said the old uniform was still in effect for another two weeks, but everyone tomorrow morning will be in gray, unless you chose to wear the banana suit. I took the hint, bought the new outfit, and got over it. Or at least that was the way it used to be.
Is this really a battle you want to fight......Chances are you WILL lose. Its unfortunate but its the nature of the beast.
