Can veterans use the gym?

I just got out and am contracting on a base in SC. I know that as a contractor, I can't use the base amenities, but as a veteran can I use the gym?

It varies based on post policies. You probably have a contractor CAC and can see IF that works.

You will have to ask whomever you are contracted to. Generally the answer would be no, unless retired. Each base has there own rules. Thank you for your service.

Not sure what any of your tags have to do with the question. If it is Army, go to the FMWR's website for that post and look up the eligibility rules. Unless you are a retiree, contractors may be ineligible. The base should have somewhere on their website hat describes eleigibility for MWR facilities.

You have to confirm with the staff. AAFES are the only ones offering patronage to veterans.

You should be able to use the gym IF you still retain an ID card. Most that get out are still in either a reserve or IRR status and retain their card while under contract still. Being a veteran does not grant you any special status other than serving your country. Check with the gym as they should have a guideline as to who can and cannot use the facility. Additionally check with MWR for that base or post. These things tend to vary by base/post.

So I can't speak to every contractor or every post. But I know the contractors we trained at CRC going overseas on Fort Bliss were able to use the Gym and everything on base once they received there CAC card.

While med-ret on my end, if you go in and act like you belong nobody will bother you. On FT Carson, the gyms are empty outside of PT hours and 1530-1800...if there is nobody actively checking IDs, get your swole on mate.

The last time I check only Medal of Honor veterans. Maybe 100% disability, but I'm not sure about that one.
