Can We Digitize History before ISIS Destroys It?

Discussions on ISIS destroying history haven't been in short supply, but how to go about preventing the complete loss of what is destroyed hasn't been really addressed. As a general rule there are some news sites that are better than others, but every site has a great article at times. The below one from the Daily Beast is very interesting:

That's an interesting thought! 3D rendering could allow for virtual tours of at risk places

The unfortunate thing is that once it's gone... its gone. There is no way to bring that place back and retain it's authenticity.

An accurate copy is still a copy.

Excellent Idea. Not that I haven't tried to leave digital bread crumbs of my own history on-line for any of my ancestors.
