Frustrating, isn't it? You can hear the frustration in the question. America was designed for people who could handle freedom. That is, take responsibility for their actions. Islam fundamentally preaches that people can't be trusted with freedom. They are incapable of making decisions for themselves and, thus, cannot be held responsible for their decisions. Therein lies the real problem. How then can you transfer responsibility to a "sponsor"? They won't be able to control the people they sponsor if they cannot control their own behavior.

That would make sense, however a few laws would have to be changed or a revision of past decisions by the SCOTUS, specifically those regarding refugees and those entering the USA by way of chain migration. Don't see that happening any time soon.

No because to treat people differently (either via discrimination or preferential treatment) based on their religion would be a blatant violation of the Constitution that we all swore to uphold and defend.

You can do so, but first you have to get enough people to amendment the Constitutions, that means to y have to get the votes of two thirds of both houses of Constitutes and three quarters of State legislatures.
I doubt that you could find enough anti- American legislators to support gutting the 1st and 14th amendments, amendment in a singles state's lelisalture much less 38 States
