Can you be a Submariner Reservist?

I am exploring all my options before I make the decision to reenlist or not and I am wondering if I'd have to change rates in order to become a Navy Reservist. Not sure how a submariner would translate, if it does, into the reserves.

myles I was in the reserves for years my first unit was submarine repair unit with all bubble heads 95% of the unit had dolphins.

I know loads of them in the reserves. Drill weekends you will train like anyone else, On your 2 week, you will go out to active component for support.

You will keep your dolphins, but there were no drilling reservist attached to Submarines as of two years ago. There are many SUBASE support reserve units.

If you're stationed in Groton go to building 86 ramage hall, near the gym and talk to the career counselors there

You would keep your rate and specialty for subs, as far as I know you would not deploy on or with one, there was a nav ET in the unit I drill with, and one of our officers is a subs guy.

SFRC -- Submarine Force Reserve Component. There are 4 branches, Under Water Operations (ASW), Submarine Repair, Security Force, and the rescue sub something. I was part of ASW and I loved it! There are a lot of things in the Reserves you might enjoy. You have to look for something that interests you and a unit that actually does something, there's so many things to do. The problem submariners have in the Reserves is being attached to a unit that justs drills. You might enjoy SPAWAR, they do robotics and drones, lot of submariners there. Don't put yourself in a box.
I fixed boats for 10 years and I understand the community. I was a Nuke and had to come back to the Reserves as a YN. Everybody needs a YN so I was exposed to different communities. I am a very well rounded sailor!
My favorite unit hands down is UWO.
