Can you be flagged for promotion based off an injury? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-you-be-flagged-for-promotion-based-off-an-injury

I will try to make this short and sweet but I have a serious question. While my unit is out at JRTC I’m on Rear duty showing up to formations, cleaning, and doing what is needed to be done for the day. I was just on staff duty not to long ago and I checked my ERB and I seen I was Flagged for promotion. I was shocked that the commander would actually sign off on this and to be honest feel I am not a bad soldier. I am currently going to get surgery on my hip, an injury that has been bothering me for 6 months. (On and off profile till we knew what the issue was.) So I have not done a actual record company PT test in a long time. But a month ago I did two PT tests (not on profile) and passed both with ease besides the run. I was 1/5 guys in my PLATOON e-4 and below that actually passed their PT test and I was hurting. Of course the run wasn’t my old 13:00 minute 2 mike run but I passed. But was thinking since it was not record maybe they didn’t count that.

Before all this I felt I was getting harassed by my platoon sergeant. I have brought this up to many of my leadership such as squad leaders and team leaders and out of all of them I’ve only had one who actually helped with the situation. As time moved on right before this Sgt left, he brought me into the office for a recommendation for non promotion. He brought three negative counseling statements out of my folder and read them. 1 for pushing a buddy of mine while we were upset at each other last year. 2 for my squad as a whole not communicating well together, and 3 I didn’t have plates on my newly owned vehicle and he did not want me to drive it. That was it and all that was in my folder. In the counseling was things such as I need to improve communication and also be able to physically and mentally ready to do my job. Which comes the question what if I am hurt. I am currently back on profile after my MRI and Athrogram. Going to get surgery like I said the 13th and waiting to go to WTU battalion.

I am not claiming to be the perfect soldier but I see worst soldiers get promoted and slipped under the rug just for being liked. So can you be flagged for promotion based off injury? Or could it be the recommendation and if so would paperwork from the PA and Westpoint validate my case? Please help.

As extra here I did sign agree to the counseling stating I was read what was on the counseling. I personally don’t agree with what was said on it but I know how signing a counseling a works. Thanks! However, pertaining to the flag, the exact answer to your question can be found at: Para 2-3, AR 600-8-19. Failing that, have you approached your leadership about it? There is more than one reason for an administrative flag.

Looking at what you’ve told me, that’s kind of weird, but maybe you don’t have the whole story. Coming from my own experience never let a light duty chit expire if your still broke. People will try to talk you out of it saying your fine but you know you and your body. And if it's a service related injury make sure everything is documented. I don't know if you guys can rate bens out of ROTC but still make sure things are documented when they do count. Also make sure if you read something that doesn't make sense in your med jacket have the doc break it down Barney. The VA will try and curve you on things and it can be the difference between insured for life or paying for problems they caused... just a thought from experience. For an injury- no flag. 2. You can be flagged for not passing (completely) an AFPT. You must pass all portions of the AFPT to pass! 3. Your are injured and going to surgery, so there for you will not be able to participate with the unit much nor will you be able to do much as a SPC. 4. I doubt you are flagged/barred from promotion- but rather removed from the automatic TIS/TIG Promotion list. 5. After you return to full duty, that should be lifted anyway. If you took a diagnostic PT test and passed it, then that's great, but it doesn't count. You have to know before you take it if it's for record. You can take a PT test now under the constraints of your profile in order to remove the flag. Work with medical to ascertain what that is. You may only do pushups, you may do the walk, you might not have to do sit-ups. CSM David Heidke Tue, 19 Jun 2018 16:47:01 -0400 2018-06-19T16:47:01-04:00 2018-06-19T01:20:28-04:00
