That is very sad SPC Nick Lai. Unfortunately in this day and age I am not surprised that a school district would send an eighth-grader home from school for wearing a t-shirt honoring fallen troops—because it had a gun on it.

If in the school dress code, wearing a shirt with a gun on it is clearly prohibited then the school simply abided by their rules. If it was some arbitrary interpretation of the dress code then the school officials were clearly wrong.

SPC Nick Lai If there is no inflammatory, or obscene, language, or pictures, on the shirt then I believe that the young man should have opportunity to wear whatever shirt he wants. He obviously is proud of his brother's service, and there is no reason to forbid this shirt any more so than you would forbid the wearing of a shirt from any other child's favorite sports team.

I went to that school many years ago. It is sad to see how out of touch they have become.
