Can you enlist into AD as prior service after being chartered out of USAR? https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-you-enlist-into-ad-as-prior-service-after-being-chartered-out-of-usar

I’ll start with this: I was a lazy dumb ass.

Question is, I was chaptered out seven years ago from USAR after 6 years of service for being an unsatisfactory participant and received a reduction and under other than honorable discharge. At the time my work schedule as a full time police officer conflicted greatly with drill dates and I wasn’t able to work with my unit to make up missed drills. I am now wanting to re-enlist active duty. With appropriate waivers would it be possible and how likely? Looking for recruiters or others with this experience. Your story doesn’t make sense. I and probably everyone else on this site will agree that no police department would have an issue with a reservist attending drill when needed. I believe you are leaving out a lot from this story.

1: what is your RE code?
2: why would the army want you back if you performed so poorly in the past?

I believe you received an RE-4, which is non waiverable SSG Private RallyPoint Member Sun, 10 May 2020 00:09:24 -0400 2020-05-10T00:09:24-04:00 Response by SGM Bill Frazer made May 10 at 2020 12:16 AM https://www.rallypoint.com/answers/can-you-enlist-into-ad-as-prior-service-after-being-chartered-out-of-usar?n=5870846&urlhash=5870846

What RE code was on your DD214? or discharge papers. Per AR 601–210, 4–23. Nonwaiverable disqualifying separations or discharges....OTH discharges fall under this as non-waiverable. Your status is non waiverable. Therefore, you are NOT getting back into any Army component. And, I highly doubt you will get into another branch with an OTH.

Your RE-Code on your DD214s won't matter in this case since you were discharged from the Reserves. You receive Orders of Discharge. You don't receive a 214. And, if your Orders of Discharge say OTH, then go ahead and stop trying...as per what I said above. You have a Cybersecurity degree and your in one of the largest IT markets in the United States that pays a premium for IT skills and you want to join the Army and take the 70% reduction in pay or more that you otherwise would get as a civilian. How would you rationalize such a move? Additionally, you surely have to know by now that Cybersecurity is a much better fit in USAF then AD Army. Why would you choose Army if that is what you wanted to do? You do need some serious career planning here. There is a group in Dallas centered around IT that would sit down with you and help you do that. I mean if I were in your shoes I would not go AD any branch from a Police Department job to learn more about IT. Very bad career move in my opinion. If I were you I would stay out of the Armed Forces your probably not going to be happy there given your prior work background and your current work goals.
