Public gym? As in, the gym on base? If so, the gym on base will dictate what the appropriate attire is. But, I have seen it done that way.

Why in God's name would you purposely work out in OCPs? The only time you do that is if you don't have time to change. You'll see it on base when people only have 30 minutes to hit the gym over lunch, but anywhere else is ridiculous.

Greg, You’re just a civilian so way bother asking this knucklehead question if you’re not in the military yet. Physical training in uniform is off limits in a public Facility. Ask something more important like how long is Basic Training, Can I wear my civilian clothes to Basic Training? Now you’re talking.

We were not allowed to wear fatigues off post in public except for driving to and from duty.

A bit ridiculous, and why would that a good idea at any level? Wear your Army T Shirt, with the haircut people will know your active.

On post, I've seen it. That's done due to time constraints. Off post makes absolutely no sense, and admittedly sounds like you want to advertise your service.

Speaking from regulations, if memory serves you're only allowed to wear your OCP's to and from duty, and allowed to make stops for things such as gas. The gym is not allowed.

I've seen folks at my base hit the gym in their OCPs before, but usually without the boots. Wearing an undershirt and trousers seems doable, but boots might be a bit of a challenge. I've also never seen anyone wearing boots at my gym (https://hitsona.com/banbridge/ ). Maybe check with the gym staff or fellow service members to get their take on it.
