This isn't about startIng a Stolen Valor debate, this is to check the knowledge of those who know the proper wear of the Army ASU's as formal attire for a wedding. I posted this on another site after I say this on a Stolen Valor page...SO...what's wrong with THIS uniform? GO!

well for starters the CIB is higher award than the jump wings, wings should be on the pocket flap and the CIB over the ribbons, then you have the guys expert on the right of the marksman, 24 years and a E-7, and needs to go to rack builder for the ribbons. you don't cross draw your saber, no blue disk on Hat, and is the bow tie authorized? But i could be wrong!

Outside of what the other folks identified, looks like he has a missing star on his Iraq Medal and Afghan Medal. Def has 2 Humanitarian medals and his ribbons order are all of sorts of football batted up.

He is missing a star on his National Defense Service Medal. He has Dessert Storm and OIF medals - two different award periods...

He is also missing one of the GWOT medals.

It's hard to tell completely because of the poor resolution of the image.

Being only Navy, I don't know what other issues there are...

Wow. That E-7 sure does qualify with a lot of weapons systems. Maybe that's why he wears the Sharpshooter above the Expert Bolo Badge.
Those ribbons are very out of order. Must be tough when you have so many.
CIB on the wrong side.
No Regimental Crest.
No campaign Stars on the Kosovo, Iraq, or Afghanistan Campaign Medals, nor on the NDSM which would have to since he has Gulf War and post 9-11 campaign medals.
Come to think of it, he doesn't have any devices on any ribbons.

Wrong belt. When wearing the NCO Sword, he should have the Ceremonial Belt on. And his sword is on the incorrect side.

Looks like he spent a bundle on his get-up. This guy is a heavily invested poser. I see about $1k worth of uniform items. The Marlow White Sword alone is around $400.

First off, is this guy REALLY an Army senior NCO???? If he is, his battles need to fix him ASAP.

Discrepencies: His awards are all out of order. CIB is in wrong place. Airborn badge not properly spaced. Wrong sword belt. Sword belt worn too low. He's wearing blue discs on his collars but not on his cover. No Regimental affiliation. Not wearing DUI, but IIRC that is optional when ASU is used for "formal" uniform vs "duty" uniform.

I'm AF so I don't have a lot of knowledge of Army regs, but with my limited knowledge things just don't look "right". I think the first thing I'd question, if I count correctly, is how could someone have 24 years with that many awards and only be an E-7. And the fit of the uniform just aint right.

Wearing combat infantry badge on wrong side of jacket. Qual badges are backwards. Expert goes inside. Missing DUI'S from jacket shoulders. His airborne or air assault badge could/should be worn below ribbons to make room for CIB and is currently incorrectly aligned. No regimental crest. Not sure about the sword and belt. When I was in, this was the Dress Blue uniform. So, from that perspective let’s go: Order of precedence on his service awards is wrong, there are no devices on any of his ribbons. He is sporting Gulf war and GWOT service ribbons so there should be at least one star on his NDSM, No NCOA schools? Repeat of the OSSA, Qualification badges are reversed, (kind of funny that there are 3 bars each. Nice symmetry), no blue backer on his cap insignia, CIB on the wrong side, Wrong belt, sword is on the wrong side, Wong type of service stripes (in my day, the wrapped around the sleeve of the Dress Blue Uniform) speaking of service stripes, I do not see a good conduct award, but if I did, he would most likely not have proper accoutrements. No regimental crest, No PUC's , No Unit Crests, (maybe the regs have changed since my day) Lastly, Really SFC??? With all those awards and years of service you should be at least a Master (E-8) if not a SGM. I guess he felt that would have been over the top.

obviously a lot wrong, but one thing I saw rite off is the fuzzy neck, 2nd is the sleve looks about 2 sizes to big and the front of the tummy and chest area is real baggy, kinda looks like hes wearing somebody elses jacket and sinching it up with the belt, plus a 7 1/2 hat on a 7 head kills it,

Issues of the uniform aside - do any of these assholes ever get punished? Would you risk an assault charge to "correct" one of them to the extent that they deserve? Being that in my youth (I'm 45) I had a tad of an anger issue, I've had enough overnighters in jail. I'm not a criminal, but a fight here and there and standing in front of a judge in order to pay them large sums of money is something I avoid having to explain to my 13 y/o ... yet I'm not sure I wouldn't be game to properly correct one of these guys.

My observations at a quick glance bow tie and wearing headgear, not to mention its a formal/ not formal event but if you're going to wear the bow tie go no headgear. Award rack needs work or you're messed up( I can't even comprehend this stuff especially with your service stripes showing....later note) Ladder Qual badges really those all look like weapons and not even a track (1) or (2) wheel badge, under the neon I see no unit badges.... just a CIB with a star which may be valid depending on his whopping looks likes 5 combat stripes.... if he invaded Afg and Iraq that is valid...... going back to our badges Qual big ole ladder its cool he is a light PSG, he has to qual on all that. then the drivers badges...... Too many medals to begin with, but now a days that seems typical. Looks like Medals are given just for having set foot somewhere for an hour. Eisenhower at 55 with more than 30 years of service, wore half the medals most 30 years old female sergeants with 10 of service wear now. Others like MacArthur often wore none. That in itself may be stolen something. It's ridiculous and phony! Once I got home after ETS, I threw my GCM in the kitchen thrash.

Ribbons are so out of order and inconsistent with the rest of his "apparent" service as to be laughable. 32 years if service...service stripes mounted improperly, CIB 2nd award on wrong side. Missing Unit crests on shoulders, missing campaign stars on his tour ribbons, It looks like he has duplicate ribbons at the lapel instead of oak leafs, CIB on wrong side as well as Airborne wings in wrong place due to the CIB. I've been out a few years so I may be rusty, but isn't the belt and sword for Officers and Old Guard or ceremony only? And usually if you're in ball dress, you don't wear headgear. He's played the game a while, look at the demeanor on his face.

I'm not an expert on the Army's ASU as I never had any contact or reason to wear one but one thing I know for sure, an NCO doesn't have a Sword. His Badges are backwards and there are a few too many tabs hanging down from both. The details of his "Salad Bar" are to small for me to make out so I can't comment on that but if his achievement badges are backwards I would bet a few Medals are wrong as well. There's more than likely a few other things I am missing but my memory isn't what it used to be.

I have to concur with the fine young LT below but here is my hack: 1)CIB-wrong side,2)No unit citations. That much a PX hero should have a MUC/PUC/SUC (no puns intended), 3)Expert badge should be closer to heart,4) Infantry has a distinctive belt? not plane leather,5) no white gloves,6)Following ribbons not in the right place (my vision is off at 59 yrs old):NDSM;Good Conduct;Kuwait/Saudi LIB;Expeditionary;and what is with the placement of the lowest 3 ribbons,7)Incorrect saber,8) I believe that he is wearing a short sleeved shirt because you cannot see the outline of any cuffs, and finally 9) you wear a fore and hand tie before 1700 and the bow-tie after 1700 (used to be dusk...am I ancient or what)....."By your leave, LT"!

As his awards go besides the order of precedence being wrong, or are unrecognisable ... as already stated no way he served in not only one Korean War Campaign, but two? How about his Air Medal or 28+ years and no Good Conduct Medal; or possibly two Humanitarian Service Medals and two Iraq Campaign Medal; or NCOPD Ribbon with no bronze numerals (kind of hard as SFC); or lack of white gloves ... and the list goes on ...

I will go from top to bottom:
I don't know about the bow tie.
No unit crest on both shoulders.
CIB is on the opposite side, were branch insignia suppose to be.
Ribbons are on a wrong order of precedence.
Service stripes are way off.

Ribbons are out of order,ribbons duplicated (NDSM), Marksmanship badges in wrong order, Airborne wings should be on pocket flap, combat infantry badge should be above ribbons. He is wearing the rank of an E-7 however he has no numbers in his professional development ribbon, He appears to be wearing 6 combat stripes. ( Clicked and saved the photo to my pictures so I could enlarge it for better detail) Hard to believe he has over 27 years (by service stripes) and no achievement medals above Army Achievement Medal and only one of those. He appears to wearing several reserve or National Guard ribbons such as the Army Reserve Component Achievement medal (ARCAM). I can tell you that with the lack of leadership or achievement which is noted by his lack of leadership and achievement awards and the gross inaccuracies of his uniform this guy would have never made it to SGT, let alone SFC. in the units I served with. If his DA Photo for the E-7 board looked like this, then the Army is in a spiral decline, and I am for one glad to be retired.

Do my eyes deceive or is that a Combat Infantry badge above his right breast pocket? Is this at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall? Missing unit crests from shoulder epaulets as well as Ribbons out of order. National defense missing star. Looks like he has the Kuwaiti liberation ribbon without the attachment also. However, if that's the case I can't help but wonder why he didn't wear the medals themselves. Coast Guard and navy sea service? Reserve medal with m, infected badge on the right, service stripes all messed up, I just cannot stop. Hate these morons. I served in two branches, and also given an award from a branch I wasn't in but working with. But at least I checked AR 670-1 to make sure I could wear them and in what order. Memory's kinda rusted since it was 16 years ago I was Honorably Discharged, but on the marksman badges, I was told it was the highest one obtained with no more than 1 or 2 weapons type underneath it. I could be wrong on such, but damn, that guy's got so many rows of ribbons (I only had two rows when I wore my Class A uniform back in the day). Then it finally comes to a questionable part (one I hope someone who is currently serving has knowledge of) but of the specialty insignia (or whatever it is called that is on the lapel) I had worn did not have a "coaster" underneath it; it was of pure brass, so I don't know if it is of a new design since I never own an Army blues, just Army greens at the time when I had served.

Let me start from the top and work my way down. The service cap should have an infantry insignia disk. The braid on the service cap is not paralell with the ground(The back should be lifted slightly). Measurement on branch disk is clearly not 1 inch in both directions. The airborne wings are too close to the ribbon rack and I would suggest aligning it on the vertical edge of the ribbon rack to the wearer's left. The CIB should be on the wearer's left above the airborne wings. There is no RDI worn above the right breast pocket. I would compare the ribbon rack to their ERB, but the NCOPDR should at least have a "2" because ALC is a requirement for SFC. I would also verify his numerous weapon qualifications against his ERB.However, the Expert badge should be to the wearer's right of the Sharpshooter badge per the order of precedence. It is hard to tell, but it appears that his Service Stripes are not vertical.

I worked for a Master Chief back in 1975 who was an original SEABEE from WW2. His gold service years stripes met at the bottom chevron on his crow. He had 43 years of service. Even with enough ribbons to satisfy an Admiral his uniform looked a lot cleaner than the guy pictured.

While I am not totally up on my 670-1, the things that jump out to me are CIB wrong side, Qual badges out of sequence, Unit Affiliations missing. Didn't think they brought the service hashs back, but 24 yrs of service he does not look old enough for, not going to waste my time checking Order of Precedence on the ribbons, but if your #1 is a purple heart with that stack then your were probably a dud, and I have not seen or heard of anyone wearing the sword since before I enlisted

Ribbons out of order,CIB (2nd Award) should be on the other side,weapon proficientcy badges backward,belt buckle not in-line with coat seam,maybe more.....

To many bars on qualification badges, wrong order. CIB and Jump wings in wrong location, Inf. disk missing from cover, no white gloves, no ceremonial belt, to far forward. I cant see ribbons well enough to check order.

I am so late on this.
Anyway, his qualifications exceeded the latest version of AR 670-1. His uniform alone is 85% VA Disability Compensation Rates for being an Infantry. What's up with CIB badge placement, SCI FI name tag, missing star(s) on Iraq Campaign ribbon...(depends on the date of the campaign)?
At least, 24+ years in service with zero Good Conduct medal(s)? Huh!
I thank him for his service.
